Modern hotel right by the sea – our first choice for Split
After some organizational difficulties with our originally booked hotel, we were able to spend the last two nights of our stay in Split at the Amphora Hotel. In retrospect, that was the best decision for us.
Even upon entering the hotel, one notices that great value is placed on quality here. Everything is modern, high-quality furnished, and exceptionally clean. Our room was spacious and featured an impressively large terrace – we had never had so much outdoor space in any hotel before.
The location also convinced us. Only one street separates the hotel from the sea. Additionally, both a beautiful outdoor pool and an indoor pool are available, allowing one to relax regardless of the weather.
A true highlight for us was the newly designed beach promenade right in front of the hotel. It is modern, generously laid out, and invites long walks. Along the promenade, there are numerous bars, restaurants, and many sports options such as soccer, basketball, and tennis courts. Here, one meets locals as well as vacationers.
We were particularly impressed by the sustainable concept of the solar panels along the promenade. During the day, they provide shade for beachgoers while simultaneously generating energy for the atmospheric lighting of the promenade in the evening. A truly well-thought-out and modern solution that we have not seen anywhere else so far.
The entire staff was friendly, attentive, and helpful. One felt welcome from the very first moment.
Another highlight was the breakfast. We travel very frequently and have experienced many hotels – a breakfast buffet of this quality and variety is rarely encountered. Fresh juices, hot and cold dishes, gluten-free and lactose-free products, as well as even sparkling wine were, of course, available. Here, truly no wishes are left unfulfilled.
In the evening, we dined à la carte in the hotel's own restaurant. The buffet would have cost €45 per person, which is why we consciously chose from the menu. We opted for roast beef with homemade gnocchi and beef carpaccio. Both dishes were excellently prepared and tasted outstanding. Together with the drinks, we paid around €58 – a very good value for the price.
A small note concerns the dining options along the beach promenade. The prices there are surprisingly high and differ little between the restaurants. A draft Croatian beer (0.35 l) cost, for example, €7, while a Budweiser (0.33 l) even cost €8. In terms of pricing, this level is, in our view, sometimes even above what we know from Germany.
The only small point of criticism – and this is really complaining at a very high level – concerns the Wi-Fi. When streaming a soccer game, the connection occasionally reached its limits. However, for normal use, the Wi-Fi was completely sufficient.
Our tip for anyone who wants to explore Split by car: The Amphora Hotel is, in our view, the ideal accommodation. You can reach the old town in just a few minutes by car, enjoy the vibrant center during the day, and then return to the quiet location right by the sea.
For us, the Amphora Hotel was the perfect accommodation for our stay in Split. We would come back anytime and confidently give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Not again
The biggest disappointment was that there was absolutely no sea view. Instead of the sea view we specifically paid extra for, our view was of a grass hill. The room also looked nothing like the pictures advertised when we made the booking.
According to the room description, we were supposed to receive a queen-size bed and a sofa bed. However, when we asked the staff where the sofa bed was, we were told that sofa beds were only available in suites, despite the description of our room clearly stating that a sofa bed was included. Instead, we were given a tiny extra bed that was incredibly uncomfortable and hard as a rock. It was practically impossible to sleep on, so all three of us ended up having to sleep in one queen-size bed, which was obviously not comfortable.
We spoke to the manager about these issues, but they were not helpful at all. We were offered no refund, no compensation, no room change, and no solution whatsoever. On top of that, some of the staff gave us unpleasant looks when we raised our concerns, which made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Instead of taking our complaint seriously and trying to help us, we felt as though we were being treated like a problem simply for questioning why we did not receive what we had paid for.
There were also far too few sunbeds available outside considering the number of guests staying at the hotel. Additionally, the pool area did not receive any sun until around 12–1 PM.
The cleaning wasn't the best either, and tv did not work.
Overall, this stay was extremely disappointing. We paid extra for a Superior Room with a Sea View and specific amenities, yet we received a tiny room with a view of a grass hill, an uncomfortable extra bed instead of the advertised sofa bed, and absolutely no help when we complained. We did not receive what we paid for, and the way our concerns were handled only made the experience worse. We expect this matter to be taken seriously and believe that we are entitled to appropriate compensation.

Poor service and cold food
Breakfast each day was good, but most of the waiting staff just chatting to each other.
We were half board, first evening went for buffet, food cold and one staff member working in the restaurant. Had to go to the bar in reception to get our drinks.
On the second day I asked at reception to speak to the manager about the cold food. Spoke to restaurant manager who informed me he would make sure buffet food hot tonight. Second night food still cold so we asked for food to be warmed up in microwave which they did. Third day asked to speak to manager again about cold food, was informed that every manager in the hotel finishes work at lunchtime so to come back the next day. I asked to speak to head chef and then eventually at this point, I was informed the restaurant manager would see me in 3 minutes, that evening we ate off the a la carte menu which was hot.
We went for a walk after dinner around the lovely area, came back to hotel to find all staff on there mobiles, including the bar man.
We will not return.
