Best month to book a hotel in Canada
What we’ve discovered is that if you book your Canadian hotel stay in December, it can be 15% cheaper than the average price. Try and avoid booking a hotel stay during the month of July, as the rates are 23% higher on average.
Best time to book international hotels
For international hotel stays, the best time to book a hotel is in December (with a savings of 10%), with the most expensive prices coming up also during the month of July. When is the cheapest day of the week to book a hotel?
Best day to book a hotel in Canada
If you’re planning a staycation in Canada, then the best day of the week to book a hotel is on Tuesday. It’s best to book your hotel early in the week, as prices on Tuesday are typically 10% cheaper and Monday can get you a discount of 8%. Try and not book a hotel on Friday, where prices tend to go up 10%.
Best day to book an international hotel
When searching for a hotel deal outside of Canada, it’s best to book on a Sunday. On Sunday, you can find hotel prices online to be 11% cheaper than average, with Tuesday being the most expensive days (11% more).
How far in advance should you book a hotel?
The cheapest price on average comes from booking pretty far in advance, at 26 weeks for Canadian hotels and 22 weeks in advance for a hotel abroad.
Another thing about booking international hotel stays is that it can also pay off to book at the VERY last minute. Our 2019 data shows that travellers got one of the best hotel prices by booking 0 weeks in advance, where people found hotel deals at 8% cheaper than the average price. So sometimes, booking a trip at the last-minute isn’t the worst idea!

When is the best month for a hotel stay?
The best month (cheapest month) to stay at a hotel in Canada is during the month of January, where fares are 21% cheaper.
For hotel stays outside of Canada, the best month to book for is actually February, where travellers can get discounts of 18% compared to the average hotel price.
We also found the times when we book the most trips. The peak booking month for hotels in Canada is during the month of August (13.9% of bookings), with the 2nd most popular month being December (10.5% off all bookings). For international hotel stays, the peak booking months are November (9.6%) and August (9.3%)
