Constructed in the early 2000s, Sorong Airport was built to replace the outdated former Jefman Airport. The airport consists of one passenger terminal with two floors and is located about five kilometres south of Sorong's city centre. Angkot, an Indonesian form of public transportation, is also available outside of arrivals. Sorong Airport Facilities

Sorong Airport is not only the gateway to the city of Sorong but also serves as an entry point to the nearby Raja Ampat Islands. As such, the airport is fairly busy and has many amenities for passenger comfort. There are a variety of shops located in the terminal including a small market for snacks, a newsstand, and a clothing boutique. There is also a small stall specializing in locally handcrafted items, perfect to use as souvenirs. If you need more than just a snack, there are also several restaurants and cafes to choose from. There are no banks at Sorong Airport but there are ATMs.

What to See and Do in Sorong

Sorong is a fast-growing Indonesian town with plenty to see and do in the city centre. Bars and restaurants in the downtown core stay open late and serve delicious Indonesian classics. Since Sorong is also easily connected by ferry to the Raja Ampat Islands, you'll also want to spend a day there. Snorkelling is one of Raja Ampat's most popular activities.
