Sky Airline is the second largest carrier in Chile and services a variety of domestic and international routes. Founded in 2002, the airline now carries nearly 26% of passengers in the domestic market, and travels to 14 national and 6 South American destinations.

In 2014, 2015, and 2016, SkyTrax awarded Sky Airline the title of “Best Regional Carrier in South America.” Sky Airline also placed as FlightStats most punctual airline in 2016, making it the first Chilean national airline to arrive first in global punctuality ratings.

Sky Airline previously operated a fleet of Boeing 737, but upgraded to a fleet of 15 Airbus jets in 2010. The Airbus A319 and A320 are narrow-body twin-engine aircraft that provide comfortable travel for short to medium haul routes.

    Discounts and Promotions

    Sky Airline does not have a frequent flyer program at this time. However, the airline does offer regular seat sales and promotions, which can be viewed on the Low Fare Finder page of the website. You can also sign up online to receive email notifications on new deals and promotions, or browse the airline’s social media for quick updates on any discounted flights.

    In addition to promotional rates on standard routes, there are several Sky Airline destinations that are only available for seasonal travel. Flights to Florianopolis, Punta del Este, and Rio de Janeiro are typically available on select dates, December through March, with promotional sales occurring within these months.

    Check In and Seating Options

    Online check in is available for Sky Airline flights between 48 hours and 1 hour before your scheduled departure. Once you have checked in, your boarding pass is available to print at home. If you are having trouble with printing, you can check in at the airport up to 2 hours before domestic flights and 3 hours before international flights. For those who would like access to priority check in and boarding, you can purchase the Star Pass add-on at the time of booking, through the Manage Your Flight page of the website, or during online check in.

    Sky Airline offers two types of tickets: Light fare and Plus fare. Light fare is the most affordable option, and includes a standard seat and carry-on luggage. Plus fare offers free selection of a standard seat, as well as one piece of checked luggage and the option to make one change to your reservation without paying a service charge.

    If you have purchased a Light fare, a seat will be assigned to you at random. For those travelling with children, random seats do not apply and you will be seated together to ensure a safe flight. However, adults who are travelling together may not necessarily be seated in the same area with the random seat process.

    For an additional cost, you have the option to select a seat during ticket purchase, check in, or at the airport. Standard seats can be selected to sit together, or to sit in a specific window, middle, or aisle seat. You can also purchase a seat in First Row with additional legroom, or Up Front to get off the plane more quickly.

    Baggage Allowance and Additional Fees

    All passengers on board Sky Airline may bring one piece of carry-on luggage free of charge. Your bag must fit the dimensions of 35 x 25 x 55 cm, and may not exceed 20kg. You may also bring one personal item to be stowed under the seat in front of you, not to exceed 35 x 30 x 15 cm in dimensions. Any carry-on luggage that exceeds the weight and size restrictions will be placed in the hold and may incur additional charges.

    A Light fare ticket does not include any checked luggage. If you wish to purchase a checked bag, you may do so at the time of booking for the cheapest rate, on the Manage Your Booking page of the website at a later time, or for an additional cost at the airport counter.

    Those travelling in Plus fare receive one piece of checked luggage free of charge. For both domestic and international routes, this piece of luggage may not exceed 23kg and 158 cm in dimensions. Plus fare passengers may also purchase additional checked luggage if desired. For all ticket tiers, any piece of luggage that exceeds 23kg will be charged an excess weight fee.

    If you are travelling with a child under 2 years of age, you are eligible to bring a stroller free of charge. Please check your stroller when you arrive at the airport and pick it up from baggage claims at your destination.

    In addition to baggage allowance with your flight, Sky Airline offers a cargo service independent of personal travel. You may ship items up to 150kg with dimensions of up to 170 x 140 x 110 cm.     On Board Dining and Service

    Meals are not included in the price of any Light or Plus fare tickets, but are available on board at additional cost. Sky Airline offers an in flight menu with a variety of snack items, meals, and drinks for purchase. This menu is available on board all flights, except those to and from Mendoza. Meal options may vary slightly depending upon route and time of day. Child friendly snack options and non-alcoholic beverages are also available.

    Child Policy and Unaccompanied Minors

    Children between the ages of 5 and 12 are eligible to fly alone with the Unaccompanied Minor service. In order to use this service, your child should be in good health, and all forms must be filled out well in advance. A Sky Airline representative will accompany your child through the boarding and flight process until a preregistered adult meets them at the destination airport.

    This service can be purchased online or through a customer service representative at a call center. However, check in and seat selection for Unaccompanied Minors must be done at the airport. At this time, the Unaccompanied Minor service is only available for children travelling on flights within Chile.

    For domestic flights, children must carry a passport or a valid national identification card. On international flights, children must also carry a birth certificate or family record book. If your child is flying with adults other than parents, they must also bring notary permission from both parents before they will be able to board the plane.

    Travelling with Pets

    Pets are accepted on board most Sky Airline flights. Cats and dogs are the only animals that are allowed to travel with you in the cabin, and they must be transported in a soft-sided kennel. The combined weight of the pet and carrier must not exceed a weight of 6kg and dimensions of 30 x 33 x 17 cm. Reservations for pets must be made at least 48 hours before your scheduled departure time, as there are a limited number of animals accepted on each flight.

    Cats, dogs, and birds may be transported in the cargo hold of the aircraft. Each pet must have their own kennel, the combined weight of which must not exceed 45 kg. Animals travelling in the hold should be contained in hard sided kennels, and be booked at least 48 hours in advance. Fees for animal transport vary depending upon your destination. Service dogs may travel with you in the cabin, provided that they have valid identification and are wearing a harness or leash for the duration of the flight.
