How to Check In, Seat Assignment, Leg Room and Other Fees
Air Algérie passengers are able to check-in for their flights both online and in person at the airport. As Air Algérie is going through a transitional stage while they come into accordance with Sky Alliance standards, there have been some accessibility issues with their website. Check with Air Algérie prior to your departure to see whether you’ll be able to utilize online check-in for your flight.
For passengers that are able to use Air Algérie’s online check-in, passengers are able to check-in between 24 hours and up to 3 hours prior to their flights. Passengers will be able to make seat selections at this time and will need to print out their check-in receipt (access to a printer is required). This process will help make the check-in go more smoothly at the airport, though you will still have to have a printed boarding pass given to you by an agent. Alternatively, customers are able to check-in at the airport with an agent. Passengers are responsible for having all necessary identification (photo identification, passport, visa) for inspection upon request.
Passengers are able to make their seat assignments during the booking process or prior to the departure date online. Online, passengers are able to order a special meal, choose a preferred seat or add any necessary information for their booking (up until 48 hours before the departure time). If you require seating with addition legroom or preferential exiting, be sure to advise Air Algérie during your booking process so that they are able to facilitate your needs as soon as possible. Additional seating fees may apply.
Baggage Allowance and Fees
With Air Algérie flights, each passenger has a fair baggage allowance, regardless of their ticketing class. Each passenger is entitled to one handbag with a maximum of 10kg in weight (5kg for smaller, ATR planes) which includes personal items, such as purses or laptops. Your personal items must be able to fit in your hand baggage in order for you to be seated. For passengers flying in ATR planes, the maximum handbag dimensions are 40 x 30 x 20cm and a maximum weight of 5kg. For other flights, the maximum weight is 10kg and maximum dimensions are 55 x 35 x 25cm.
On Air Algérie flights, your baggage allowance is determined by your ticketing class as well as the size of the aircraft you will be traveling on. Baggage for Air Algérie domestic flights is judged by weight instead of by piece (with baggage entitlement ranging from 20kg for Economy class, 30kg for Business class, and 40kg for First Class). For some intercontinental and European flights, baggage allowance for Economy class is 30kg with Business and First class both being entitled a maximum of 40kg. For long-haul flights, the entitlement for Economy is by piece and weight, with passengers being allotted 2 pieces of checked baggage with a weight maximum of 23kg each, while Business and First class are allotted 3 pieces of checked baggage with a weight maximum of 23kg for each item.
Excess baggage fees depend on the final destination of your flight but range in price, starting at $6 USD. Passengers are able to calculate both their baggage allowance and their excess baggage fees by consulting Air Algérie’s online baggage calculator prior to their flight. The maximum weight for one piece of luggage is 32kg. Any bags over this weight restriction will have to be repacked or dispersed throughout several bags. The maximum dimensions for checked luggage must not exceed 158cm combined (L+W+H).
Service On Board: In-flight Entertainment and Meals
Air Algérie offers in-flight entertainment on their long-haul flights with their seat-back, video on demand system. With movie offerings of both current and classic Hollywood, as well as selections in French and Arabic, passengers will be able to stay entertained on Air Algérie flights. In addition to a variety of musical offerings as well as religious offerings, there are also specific entertainment options for children, including special movies, TV shows, and games, even kids will find that the time flies by.
Air Algérie also offers their own in-flight magazine that highlights events and news specific to Algeria as well as highlights both cultural events and historical areas within the country. Air Algérie’s in-flight magazine also provides hotel information for passengers, as well as important addresses in Algeria that customers may need to reference.
On medium and long-haul flights, meals are offered to all passengers and passengers are welcome to contact Air Algérie if they have specific dietary requirements for their flight. Please be sure to give Air Algérie at least 48h notice prior to any meal requests, otherwise, the airline cannot guarantee that your specific food needs will be met. Air Algérie also offers many types of hot and cold beverages for its passengers, so no matter how long your flight is, you can be assured that Air Algérie has your comfort and safety at the forefront of their practices.
Child Fares/Fees, Minor Service Guidelines
With Air Algérie, infants under 2 years of age are able to fly on the lap of an accompanying guardian (the adult must be at least 18 years of age) for 10% of the total adult fare (of the accompanying adult). Only one child is allowed to ride on the lap of an adult and if a parent is traveling with more than one child, a second seat will have to be purchased for the second child. Any child that is flying in its own seat must be able to sit up unaided (and be at least 1 year of age) or be in a flight-approved child seat carrier. Air Algérie does have a limited number of bassinets available for use during its flights, but you must notify the airline as soon as possible as their availability cannot be guaranteed.
Children who are under 12 years of age may qualify for a ticket discount if they require their own seat, so be sure to check with Air Algérie during your booking (discounts depend on availability and flight routes). All children that are over 12 years of age will be charged the full adult fare for their trip on Air Algérie.
Pets are able to fly in the cabin of the aircraft on most Air Algérie flights, but this option is not available for flights to the UK (animals may travel to the UK by freight only). Small pets, including dogs, cats, small rodents, birds and small amphibians are allowed on Air Algérie flights as long as they are less than 6kg in total weight. Animals flying onboard the aircraft must also be in a closed container that is waterproof and well-ventilated. The maximum size for pets as carry-on luggage is the same as the maximum dimensions for hand baggage (115cm total; 55+40+20cm) and will fill the handbag allotment for any passenger carrying their pet onboard. Animals must remain in their containers for the entirety of the flight and are expected to be placed underneath the seat in front of the passengers, at their feet. There are a limited number of pets that are able to be transported in the cabin on Air Algérie flights, so be sure to contact the airline as soon as possible after booking your ticket to make proper arrangements for your pet.
Alternatively, for larger pets and for some specific destinations, pets are able to travel in the hold of Air Algérie aircraft. If pets are heavier than 6kg total weight (including the carrier) and their size exceeds the maximum total dimensions of 115cm, they are only able to fly in the hold. Your animal’s container must be sturdy, waterproof, and properly ventilated in order to be accepted onto the aircraft. Fees for traveling with your pet range depending on where you are flying to, but costs start at around $130 USD. The passenger is responsible for having all proper documentation for their pet (health certificates, import licenses, vaccination records, and any other information needed by import officials). It is the passenger's responsibility to ensure that they have the proper documentation for their pet prior to their departure date.
If you are traveling with a service dog, you are responsible for having all necessary documentation for your service dog (any health certificates, vaccination records, import licenses and documentation concerning your need of a service dog from your doctor). Passengers with service dogs are exempt from the fees for traveling with an animal, but be sure to contact the airline as soon as possible to make arrangements for traveling with your service dog.
