Primera Air Cheap Flights, Flight Deals, and Airline Tickets

Primera Air is a Danish and Latvian leisure airline owned by the Icelandic Primera Travel Group. Since it was established in 2003 to provide scheduled air services for tour operators, Primera Air has grown to develop a wide network of over 70 destinations. Primera Air's main headquarters is located in Riga, Latvia under the name Primera Air Nordic, but the airline also has offices in Copenhagen, Denmark under the name Primera Air Scandinavia. The airline flies from airports in Finland, Sweden, Iceland, and Denmark to many different popular holiday destinations, mostly throughout Europe.

Primera Air was originally founded in Iceland under the name JetX. Five years later, in 2008, JetX came under the ownership of the Primera Travel Group and rebranded as Primera Air. The following, under a Danish Air operator's certificate, Primera Air established Primera Air Scandinavia. For its first several years in operation, Primera Air only offered chartered service. It wasn't until 2013 that the airline gradually began offered scheduled service. With the introduction of scheduled flights, Primera Air's network grew in both flight frequency and in number of routes.

The airline remained headquartered in Iceland until 2014, when it moved its main offices to Riga. That same year, Primera Air Nordic was established under a Latvian operating license. All operational matters for both Primera Air Nordic and Primera Air Scandinavia have, from that point on, been overseen from the airline's Network Control Centre in Riga. Today, Primera Air offers mostly scheduled service, but the airline does still provide charter services as well. In the past few years, it has increased flight frequency and adjusted its pricing policy in order to compete with low-cost carriers in Europe.

Why Fly with Primera Air

Loyalty Programs, Discounts and Miles promotions

Primera Air does not have a frequent flyer loyalty program for collecting and redeeming miles. The airline does, however, offer discounted rates for large groups. If you are travelling with a group of 10 or more, then you can contact the airline directly to receive special fares and offers that can save everyone in the group some money. Primera Air will review your booking and offer the best possible price for your itinerary.

How to Check In, Seating Assignment, Leg Room and Other Fees

When checking in for your Primera Air flight, it is recommended that you arrive at the airport check-in counter at least two hours before your flight departure. Primera Air check-in counters close 45 minutes before departure, and you will not be able to receive your boarding pass after that time. Airport check-in is available at every airport that Primera Air flies from.

If you want to skip the airport check-in line, then you may have the option of using a Primera Air Self-Service Kiosk depending on your departure city. The self-service kiosk allows you to print your boarding pass and head straight to security. It is available at Stockholm, Malmo, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, Billund, and Aalborg.

Primera Air online check-in, which is available for flights departing from Stockholm, Malmo, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, Malaga, and Tenerife South, allows you to skip both the kiosk and the check-in counter. With online check-in, you can print your boarding pass or have it sent to your mobile device ahead of time. Online check-in is available five days before departure and closes four hours before departure.

If you do not want to wait until you check-in to select a seat for your Primera Air flight, then you can opt to reserve a seat in advance for a fee. Fees vary depending on the type of seat you choose and on your itinerary. There are three different seat options available for reservation – standard seats, front seats, and exit row seats.

Baggage Allowance and Fees

When travelling with Primera Air, you are allowed to bring one carry-on bag and one personal item into the cabin of the aircraft. The carry-on bag must be within 54x45x25 cm in size and the personal item within 25x33x20 cm. The combined weight of both items cannot exceed 10 kg.

Primera Air tickets do not include a checked baggage allowance. The cost of checking a piece of luggage weighing no more than 23 kg ranges from EUR 24.99 to 34.99 depending on your itinerary. The price may be more expensive at the airport, so make sure you purchase your checked baggage allowance online ahead of time. You can add checked baggage to your booking up to two hours before flight departure time. An excess baggage charge will apply if your checked bag exceeds the allowable weight limit. This charge ranges from EUR 10 to 13 per kg.

Service On Board: In-flight Entertainment and Meals

Primera Air recommends that passengers bring their own electronic devices to keep themselves entertained on board. You can keep your devices charged with the provided USB sockets and power outlets, and you can stay connected by using Primera Air's WiFi service while in flight.

Full meals are available for purchase on all Primera Air flights. Each meal comes with an appetizer, a main dish, a bread roll, dessert, and coffee or tea. You can choose and pay for your meal at the time of booking or after you have booked your flight through your online flight management portal. You will also have the option of purchasing additional snacks and meals once onboard.

Child Fares/Fees, Minor Service guidelines

Planning to travel with your child? Infants under two years old can travel on the lap of an adult for 10% of the price of a full adult ticket. If you do wish to purchase an additional seat for your infant, then you may do so at 85% of the price of a full adult ticket. Children two to 11 years of age are also eligible to fly at this discounted rate with Primera Air.

All Primera Air flights provide Unaccompanied Minor service with a special escort for children aged five to 11 travelling alone for an additional fee. On flights within Europe, the Unaccompanied Minor service fee is EUR 49.99. The fee is USD 59.99 on flights to the United States and CAD 74.99 on flights to Canada. Only four unaccompanied minors are allowed per flight, so you may not be able to book your child on a flight that has already reached this limit.

Pet Policy

Primera Air accepts pets on flights to and from Turkey and Egypt, as well as on flights within Schengen Zone countries. The pet must be either a cat or a dog and needs to be booked by calling the airline directly. Pets are not allowed on transatlantic flights to and from the United States.

On Primera Air flights which do allow pets, passengers can bring their pet into the cabin of the plane as long as the animal weighs less than 8 kg. Pets must travel in a carrier that does not exceed 40x25x23 cm in size and there is a limit of one pet per passenger. Pets that weigh over 8 kg can travel in the cargo hold of the aircraft. Only one animal is allowed per container, and the container must be large enough for the animal to comfortably lie down, stand up, and turn around. The cost of transporting a pet either in the cabin or the cargo hold is EUR 49.99.
