Portland is so picturesque. You’re near both the ocean and the forest so you really have the best of both worlds. The food is one of the best reasons to go. Portland has some of the consistently best food I’ve ever had. Do yourself a favor, try The Holy Donut and Maíz Colombian Street Food- both are amazing!

Portland is a great city for food, is essentially what I can say after my first visit. I was only there for 1.5 days and it rained for most of that time, but I did get to experience a lot of very good food, some great old architecture, quaint cobblestone streets, and friendly locals. We stayed about 30 minutes out of the city proper, in West Bath (at an AirBNB) so I'm sure staying within the city limits would have made access and seeing more a bit easier, though quite honestly, I'd really attribute most of our lack of exploration to the rain. Parking here is a bit of an issue, as well. We had a rental car and, again, as we were staying outside of the city, had to locate someplace affordable for the full day. Something to be aware of.

This is a really adorable, hip seaside town with a great food scene. This was a fantastic day trip from Boston for us to see beautiful Maine.
