This is the capital city of New Caledonia and it is French but still English. The French stores and restaurants, the waterfront market and the architecture. Fun place to visit and not touristy.

I really loved Noumea. Koghi Parc Aventure is a high ropes course up in the tree tops! The team is really great and it is heaps of fun. We also got some french food and wine from one of the small supermarkets and ate it on the beach. Learn a bit of French and use the public buses to get around - so cheap.

Noumea is a cosmopolitan city characterised by a distinct French atmosphere and New Caledonia’s Melanesian and indigenous cultural heritage.

We had a brief visit on a Sunday when most activities seemed to be closed. We were on a cruise boat. Maybe our view of the place would be better if we were there on another day. We would suggest those that are on a P+O boat to not get too excited about this port. Unfortunately we were told the locals don't want to have much to do with you. What we saw was expensive, and the place looked dirty.
