Toluca is a town in the west of Mexico City about an hour’s drive. Not a huge tourist destination, just a typical local town.
Toluca is basically a suburb of Mexico City but it does have a picturesque Zocalo downtown, a cathedral and some more cosmopolitan attractions such as the Felipe Villanueva Concert Hall, Museo de Bellas Artes (Museum of Fine Arts) and the Cosmovitral, a turn of the century iron and stone works built in the Art Nouveau and Neoclassical style that features one of the largest collections of stained glass in the world. The botanical gardens on site are like Toluca itself - a pleasant interlude on your way to somewhere else.
