Located in east-central Mexico, the city of Puebla offers great views from its elevated location. Founded in 1531, it was an important city established to secure trade from the port at Veracruz to Mexico City, just an hour away. Two volcanoes, Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl, rest nearby. Puebla is an old historic town about 2 hrs outside of Mexico City. It’s worth a visit to see it’s cultural importance since it’s a UNESCO site.

Picturesque colonial downtown, safe, and with some of the best cuisine in the country (home of mole poblano and cemitas, for example). Cholula (town and archeological site), in the same metro area is also pretty cool, more hippie.
Puebla is the 4th largest city in Mexico and only an hour or so away from the capital, Mexico D.F.

Gorgeous town about 2 hours from Mexico City without traffic. You can either take a very nice bus for $30 roundtrip or pitch in with some friends for a car (~$170USD) so less than ~$45USD/person with driver included.
It was founded in 1531 so the city architecture and planning makes it worth a visit. It's a World Heritage Site!
Great local eats include mole and the national seasonal dish, chiles en nogada.
