Sharm itself is a bit of a dump -- way overbuilt and filled with unattractive hotels that are way past their prime. That said, Sharm is a great base for excursions further into the Sinai (St. Catherine's Monastery, Mt. Sinai, Dahab) and for underwater exploration. The diving here is absolutely world class.

This is a nice site to go to the beach and do a desert excursion but don't expect to experience the real Egyptian life as it's a pure Tourist Resort destination.
