Winnipeg Vacations

At Canada's geographic center, Winnipeg was once an aboriginal trading post and the historical gateway to the prairies, where “the West began”. Still a crossroads of sorts, the now thriving metropolis on “The Forks” of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers is a major transportation hub with a diverse economy. jazz and folk festivals, there are over 100 languages spoken in the city, including several First Nations. Cheer on the Manitoba Moose at the Winnipeg Arena, explore the largest collection of Inuit art at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, and dine at the Salisbury House Restaurant upon the Esplanande Riel, a pedestrian-only cable-stayed bridge. A Mecca for the arts and sports, windy Winnipeg is a city on the rise.

For being such a small town, Winnipeg has a surprisingly impressive arts and culture scene. Some highlights include the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and 'Folklorama' that is a set of performance venues throughout the city and blends all the wonderful cultures it takes place in the summer. Unfortunately, when it's not below zero, windy and covered in snow and ice - you're likely to be dodging the mosquitoes.

Lets face it, Winnipeg is known for it's super cold temperatures in the winter and the mosquitoes in the summer. If you look past those things though, Winnipeg is a city with a small town vibe. There are some AMAZING restaurants (Nuburger, Segovia, Boon, and Fude to name a few) and a great cultural scene. If you want to experience the best of the Winnipeg community, Fringe Festival, Folklorama, and Folk Fest are amazing places to do it.

Visited when I was very young. I remember it being pretty cold there. We did go catfish fishing near by and caught some amazing fish

I live in Winnipeg, and although it gets a bad review from the rest of the country, I can say (from someone who has seen most of Canada and the USA), that it is a wonderful place to call home!

Such a cold and windy City in the Winter time, when I arrived there! Freezing cold, in fact, and with it being out on the Prairies gets the brunt of the cold wind which adds to the wind-chill factor. Brrr!!
