Thessaloniki Vacations

Thessaloniki is Greece’s second largest city and one of its most fun destinations. Distinguished by the landmark seafront White Tower and a continuous 3000 year history that rubbed elbows with the Byzantines, Romans and Ottomans, Thessaloniki is nevertheless unencumbered by history when it lets its hair down and sparkles with a rich nightlife. ... Thessaloniki is also famous for sweets like baklava, layered pastry with honey, and tsoureki, plaited sweetened breads, a must for any travelling foodie. The best restaurants are the ouzeri, where you can accompany the liquor with small plates of food, while many hotels are concentrated in the area a few blocks north of Aristotelous. A visit to Salonica, as this young, vibrant city in ancient clothes is also called, is a treat for all the senses.

Local from Thessaloniki, Greece

Thessaloniki is the second largest city of Greece and the most important center of its Northern part. Built near the sea at the heart of the Thermaikos Gulf, it is a modern metropolis bearing the marks of its stormy history and its cosmopolitan character.
Thessaloniki is a City of charm and many beauties. Museums, Archeological sites, excellent food, nightlife are few of the things it has to offer.

Thessaloniki is THE city to visit in northern Greece, with a historic city center, modern town surrounding it and an amazing location on the sea. Have dinner in a local taverna overlooking the historic White Tower for an unforgettable experience!

Large Greek city, second to Athens. Busy streets but seems a little calmer. Slowdown in economy shows. Reasonable food prices.

This city is historic, yet modern and has some of the best food and nicest people in Greece. The sea breeze keeps it pleasant, even in summer, and the entire city is alive with culture.

This city is the largest in Northern Greece. The vibe is very different than Athens, it is more laid back and visually nicer. The promenade is the highlight with restaurants and cafes dotting the landscape. A great city to explore by foot.

I dig Thessaloniki, and that's even after being there in mid-August, when the whole city was empty for some holiday that sent everyone home to their villages. It was eerie. But it's a beautiful setting, on the sea, and has a hip modern art museum and a small cool subculture. Also very good food, with more varied dishes with a Turkish influence.

It is ALWAYS good to be in Thessaloniki! Even tough it is not the capital, everything new starts from here, from music to fashion.
