As soon as we crossed the border to South Carolina, I could feel that something was different. We went to the famous Myrtle Beach, and I understood finally why it was such a popular destination. The beaches were just so welcoming, comfortable, and peaceful! Walking on the beach, even in the winter, was one of my favorite memories of the trip.

South Carolina is the heart of the Southern American Revolution and the heart of the Civil War. There is everything for a history buff to see and do.
As a Carolina girl for 4 years, and spending my childhood visiting my grandparents here, South Carolina was a time in my life full of beauty, old-fashioned values and occasionally, a cookie-cutter ignorant mentality that I could not adapt to nor approve.
Southern Hospitality in South Carolina is real, but so is palpable racism and a sense that the Civil War happened yesterday. There is a paradoxical mix of charm, elegance and loveliness countering the preachy, hateful and intolerant messaging you hear on a constant basis.
South Carolina is a state of natural magnificence, with its lush palmettos swaying in a humid breeze, the smell of salt water and fresh air along its shores, and windy romantic dirt roads. It is a time capsule of a simpler life; one with its shadows and its truths.
Sigh, South Carolina. I didn't even know states like you existed until I moved to North Carolina (which felt closer to Massachusetts in many ways than you, dear southern neighbor). Confederate flags flying from rooftops? Really? But, then again, you've given us Charleston, black water swamps, Greenville (seriously; I love this town), and ... um ... did I mention all the black water swamps? Lots of 'em.
I love S.C., any time of the year. It was my home for over 48 years. I live in Wyoming now, but next year heading back to the beautiful state. You have oceans, lakes, beautiful colors of all the seasons. Food is amazing, and the old charm of this state will keep you feeling lost in time..
I love south Carolina OMG I go there every summer and get a golden tan and get sun Brent
