South America Vacations

Cascading waterfalls, towering mountains, deserted beaches, jungles untouched by time, cities that march to the beat of their own drums ... South America is desolate and serene in places, passionate and chaotic at times. While Europe seems staid and North America paved, South America feels alive in its immediacy and vigor. But each country has a ... Read more
wholly separate and distinct national personality. Brazil dominates the continent, geographically and culturally. Pleasure-seeking cities like Rio de Janeiro and Salvador de Bahia tie the Amazon in terms of fascinating destinations. Argentina and Uruguay are inextricably tied as cousins, and both have great cities, beef and scenery (check out Argentina’s Patagonia or Lake District). Chile's narrow strip of a country ensures one of the world's widest ranges of activities, from surfing and museum-hopping to wine-tasting and glacier-climbing. Bolivia is a smorgasbord of native cultures and Colombia’s glorious cities are just now gaining the popularity they deserve. Of course, the vaunted Galapagos Islands are a destination in and of themselves, and Peru’s Machu Picchu will dizzy you in more ways than one.

Weather

Because of its opposite seasonal calendar, South America is flooded in the winter with American tourists fleeing their home’s dreary cold. However, winter is not necessarily the best time to visit: this ... Read more
sprawling continent contains climates ranging from tropical to alpine. The northern part of South America is best seen during the region’s dry season (December to April), unless you’re venturing to higher elevations, which tend to be more pleasant during the rainy months of autumn. Central South American countries are uniformly hot in the summer, but each have their own dry season, which varies greatly in length. Trekking through Patagonia is best done in the summer, while fall and spring are best for hitting the beach, when temperatures are bearable and domestic vacationers have cleared out.

I've been traveling through several countries now over the past 4 months and I couldn't even begin to sum it up! Each region is so unique from the major cities bustling with culture like Buenos Aires, Argentina to the small towns up in the mountains like Vilcabamaba, Ecuador there is so much to love!

Awesome continent with lots of beautiful attractions and countries with unique places and people. If you plan a long trip you should consider the route from north to south countries if you start in summer and from south to north if you start the trip during the winter. Remember that the winter in Chile and Argentina is during the summer in Europe and North America and vice versa.
When you plan your trip you should visit top attractions and cities - Argentina-Iguasu, Porito Moreno Bolivia-Salar de Uyuni, Death road
