I loved pretty much everything about this hotel. From the very Southwestern lobby to the nice pool, it's just gorgeous. Since some of these can be bought, they look like small apartments. Ones on the ground floor include a separate bedroom, bathroom, kitchen/living area and patio or balcony. This would be perfect for a long term traveler, a family or someone who likes a lot of space. I personally loved the big tub in the bathroom. There's also plenty of community amenities here. You can go to the pool, on site restaurant or cook on one of the grills. There's also playgrounds for kids. When I was here, there were plenty of families and senior citizens, but not too many younger people. It might not be the greatest option for single travelers. It's also somewhat hard to navigate the resort because all the buildings look the same, but I'm sure you'd get the hang of it over time.

It's hard not to be impressed by the Sheraton Desert Oasis. I like it's quiet location - you can really enjoy the desert views from here, but you're still just a short drive from shopping and restaurants (and just down the road from the famous TPC golf club). My first impression when I turned into the parking lot was "This place is huge!" and then "This place is really pretty!" Indeed, the landscape is impeccable, with a good variety of flowers and desert cacti and shrubs. One of the really nice things about staying here is that it's designed to feel like home. The smallest rooms are one-bedroom suites with a separate sitting area and a kitchenette. I didn't get a look at their larger private villas, but I bet it's just as comfortable as a nice, luxury apartment. As I said, the hotel complex is huge and I saw a lot of families enjoying the playground and spray pool. This is definitely a good family-friendly option in north Scottsdale.

The Sheraton Desert Oasis is just as the name implies: an island of green in a sea of brown desert landscape. Wander its winding canopied pathways and take in the scenery. Lush vegetation everywhere you look. Cascading waterfall fountains. The property surrounds a single pool. And what a pool it is. Waterfall, spa, and a poolside restaurant means its a popular destination during the summer months. Great atmosphere for kids. My one complaint: might be a long walk to the pool from some of the outer buildings, but at least the green keeps it nice and cool even in the summer.

The rooms are large apartment-style suites, each outfitted with a kitchen: full-sized fridge, microwave, stove and a dishwasher to do the dishes from your family dinners. Granite countertops and black fixtures give the kitchen a modern look. Living room with a big flat-screen television, and another in the bedroom. The master bedroom is outfitted with a jacuzzi-style bath, so maybe a good romantic getaway as well.

Sheraton Desert Oasis is a great value in the late spring/early summer to get away for a few days and relax.

It is part of the Starwood Hotel Chain, but this is one of their first forays in to the recent boom in Hotel chains opening time share residences for sale under their brands. So this was meant to be property that was sold in timeshares, which some have, mostly for winter weeks for cold snow birds.

But in the low season, which is summer, you can get a room for around $100. And what do you get? You get a nicely appointed, decorated model home, about a 700 square foot 1 bedroom apartment. It is repleat with 2 gas fireplaces, full kitchen with all wares and utensils, living room, patio with table and chairs, his/her bathroom sinks, a marbled tiled shower, a king size bed and a heart shaped large jacuzzi bathtub in the bedroom.

It has a full social and activities calender, so it is a good place to take the kids. There is a large clover shaped pool, with multiple water fountains, and a large rocklike island structure with caves where the jacuzzi is located. There are about 75 chaise lounges and several tables, so there is usually one available for you. There is also a poolside grill for food and beverages.

You are not far from the restaurants and nightlife of North Scottsdale, near Kierland Commons Mall, Desert Ridge Mall, 101 Mall, and about 6 other strip and big box shopping centers. You can buy food and easily eat in to save some money. The famed Tournament Players Club (TPC) gold course is close by, as well as the more exclusive and expensive Fairmont Princess hotel.

This is more of a vacation home than an exclusive resort with people waiting on you hand and foot. But it is well maintained, nicely appointed, and a relaxing getaway. Peak season (winter) rates are $325 and up, so if you come in early summer, you get a bargain and a tan by the pool.
