This SF iconic book store has shrunk in recent years but is still an anchor of Clement St. Vinyl lovers will find a small record selection.

A bookworm's dream... It's so easy to spend an afternoon getting lost in the vast used fiction collection!

There are Green Apple locations in the Richmond and the Sunset-above and below the Golden Gate Park. Green Apple has a huge selection of used books (and new books, too) in every genre. I've spent hours there and have still felt like I could see more. Luckily, they also buy books..so I hope my spending habits will even out once I sell them back.

I was lucky enough to live a few blocks away from one of the best bookstores in San Francisco. Green Apple Books is like a cross between an absent-minded professor's office and a child's treehouse. Handmade signs indicate the various sections, and oh, do they have sections: cook books, memoirs, psychology, art, human sexuality, travel...you name it, Green Apple's got it. A winding staircase sits in the middle of the store, and has the perfect amount of creak in each step to let you know this book nook is for true, old school browsers. Grab a novel recommended by the staff and wander around for a few hours to experience an independent bookstore success.

Come and experience the sights and smells of a real book store. Friends don't let friends buy all their books on Amazon.

A nice and cozy local bookstore. It's very pleasant to walk in and browse around. They even have up-to-date magazines and comic books.

This is a huge, well known bookstore that actually lives up to the hype. There is a huge selection of both new and used books, making it easy to get lost for a day or so.

Keep it local at one of the best remaining indie book stores left in the city/country! Oh and ps - I heart SF way more.

If you're a fan of books and literacy, this is the single most important stop for you in San Francisco. Green Apple Books is a neighborhood shining gem of bookstravagance (I believe half of great writing is crafting new words).

New or used, you'll most likely find it here in their lovely labyrinth of books!

No place completely compares to Powell's City of Books (in Portland), but Green Apple does has its enlightening moments. The Store was founded by Richard Savoy in 1967 in a pre-1906 building at the corner of Clement Street and Sixth Avenue. The store houses over 250,000 titles, as well as 60,000 available online. And yes you can get joyfully lost here browsing among the multi-level stacks. Green Apple Books has also been regularly voted Best Used Bookstore and Best Independent Bookstore by Bay Area readers. And for good reason.

I LOVE THIS PLACE AND I COULD LIVE THERE

ok they don't serve food but there's dim sum down the street, across the street, and probably next to it and between the two branches

books galore, media everywhere, rare and mundane -
need some help cooking,
looking for new ways to please your partner,
searching for inspiration -
all is to be found at GREEN APPLE BOOKS.

Remember - there's two parts to the store.....you are not seeing things, it is not food coma or mirages from hunger - there really are two entrances with a couple stores separating one from the other.
Not to mention that they have some great deals on books outside!!!!! (too bad I already had the ones that piqued my interest)
