This is a very solid property but it isn't as nice as other Mandarin Oriental properties and certainly isn't the best hotel in the city. I stayed in an Executive Corner Suite which had a city view (i.e., not the bay).

The property has a lot to offer and is a good hotel. Highlights are:

- excellent views from the Bay view rooms and the corridor connecting the two towers
- exceptional service, food and beverage. Everything I ate or drank during my stay was very good
- very friendly housekeeping and room service staff that go out of there way to take care of guests and anticipate needs

Despite these pluses, I thought a number of aspects were a little disappointing for a Mandarin, specifically:

- bathrooms are 3.5 star: thin towels (think Marriott, Hilton, Sheraton, et. al.), only one sink, old showers (tile instead of marble, with 70s/80s tinted glass doors and steel frames). Only 5 star bathroom feature was the Molton Brown amenities
- very basic fitness facilities. A very small area with no natural lighting tucked away next to the executive offices. No wet area and limited equipment. Definitely an after thought and not acceptable for a 5 star property and unusually bad for a Mandarin
- lobby is nice but nothing special. A bit of a lost opportunity that they didn't place the bar / lounge and restaurant on a higher floor so that the incredible views could be enjoyed from the public spaces. Views are great but hard to access unless you have a Bay view room. It is definitely worth confirming one in advance if you can

Be aware that the design aesthetic is a little different from most Mandarin Orientals where I have stayed. Instead of being Asian minimalist / modern, this property has a more traditional Chinese feel (i.e., red, gold, jade) and feels a bit more like a mix between a Shangri-La and an older Ritz or Four Seasons.

Although the views are nice when you get them, I don't think the facilities and decor at this property will impress true fans of the chain. However, the staff at this property are exceptional and are clearly doing everything they can to help make this one of the better properties in the city --- if not the best. I thought the Four Seasons was far superior.

This hotel is located conveniently for anyone working in the finance district, SOMA or just visiting the city. I think all the rooms have pretty good views of SF but some are truly exceptional, looking right out across the Bay. This goes for the restaurant too - makes for a great breakfast.

When I strolled into the Mandarin Oriental, an active lobby filled with patrons enjoying cocktails and appetizers greeted me. Considering the hotel is located in the heart of the financial district and the lobby restaurant, Brasserie S&P, has a reputation for fantastic all-day service, the Oriental certainly makes for a great gathering spot.

I was eager to visit this hotel as they recently unveiled their extensive renovations in October this year. The hotel upgraded their meeting rooms as well as the spa and wellness center. The 151 guest rooms begin on the 38th floor and each is elegantly decorated with earth tones colors that highlight the astonishing views. Being this high above the city, the rooms feel like a private oasis in the sky.

While the location caters towards business guests, this is also an ideal location for leisure travelers. Guests have easy access to Union Square, Chinatown, the Ferry Building and most importantly a plethora of incredible dining options including Wayfare Tavern, which is Tyler Florence’s creation. Whether it is for business or pleasure, Mandarin Oriental is a perfect city retreat for those seeking service, views and privacy.

Virtuoso 2013 amenities include:
Upgrade at time of booking, subject to availability
Daily breakfast
$100 food and beverage credit

Newly renovated jewel in SF. Great location just off Market it has some of the most amazing views in the city. Visit the Sky Deck to get an aerial view of all of the famous SF landmarks.

Brooklyn, New York

There are advantages to being a giant.

You can encompass a world of destinations and their various personalities–collectively delighting in them while incorporating them into your own, larger-than-life persona. The Mandarin Oriental, a giant in the hospitality industry, is a name that connotes timeless grace and ethereal old word class. It is definitive amidst its peers in the hotel world: transcending antiquity with the constant evolution of its modern approach to luxury accommodation, embracing each of its global destinations with sincerity and subtle fervor.

Staying at the Mandarin Oriental defines the experience of the destination for its guests, and a recent stay at its San Francisco location was no exception. Who couldn’t fall in love with a city so rich in history, natural beauty, and cultural depth? The answer is no one–when their perspective is from the point of view of the Mandarin Oriental, SF. Nearly every one of their rooms offer jaw-dropping views of the sweeping cityscape, trailing graceful bridges on each end of its panorama and encompassing all the landmarks in one postcard perfect shot.

Once you can tear yourself away from the view (don’t worry, it seems to find you at every angle, and even the bathrooms dazzle with their floor to ceiling windows), the rooms themselves welcome you with all the luxury and classic style that we’ve come to expect from the Mandarin Oriental. Enormous, overstuffed beds, stylish day loungers to supinely take in the views while napping, or to stylishly entertain visitors.

Of course every amenity that the technically savvy (and dependent) business traveler could desire is outfitted in and around the gorgeous, over-sized desks, and when you are ready to wash away the long day of sightseeing and shopping, you can sink deep into the luxurious tub, breath in the sweet scent of the Molton Brown bath products, and let the twinkling skyline be your visual lullaby.
