It's 1846, and our nation is a war with Mexico. President James Polk, democrat from Tennessee appeals to the leader of the Mormons, Brigham Young, to form five companies of one-hundred men each, to fight the Mexican Army in the southwest part of what is currently the USA. Brigham Young gives his blessings, and the Mormon Battalion begins it's 2 thousand mile trek to San Diego (they broke camp at the Mission de Francia in Oceanside and stayed for a month). This battalion is never tested in battle, but makes a big contribution building over 20 wells, the Courthouse, and teaching the locals how to make bricks in San Diego.
