A lot of different trails and views for hikers, bikers, and rock climbers of all skill levels. It's a large park and a gem for San Diego.

Amazing that there is this beautiful gorge right outside the city. Hiking, easy paths, visitor center, butterflies, hummingbirds, picnic areas. Has it all!

This park is awesome - miles of trails through red rocks, giant oak trees, and along the San Diego River. Great visitor's center with activities for kids. It also happens to be one of the largest urban parks in the US, located just west of San Diego.

Lots of trails that you can hike for miles on! I didn't see a creek or many trees or anything, so it's mostly scrubland, but has some good hills and the trails go for miles

Excellent hiking trails! It's very large, so you could spend hours here if you wanted. Parking is easy. This area provides very little shade so keep that in mind when preparing for your adventure.

I love these trails: you can choose your difficulty/challenge level based on your own personal fitness, and all of them will reward you with a panorama of the city. San Diego has such a beautiful landscape, and these trails help give me a taste of what early settlers found when they arrived on the sun-drenched shores. Don't forget sunscreen and water, though. You'll be in the direct rays most of the time.

See the old mission dam where the Kumeyaay Indians and later the Spanish dammed the San Diego river to ensure year round water supplies for the neighboring Mission. At 1600 feet the top of Cowles Mountain is the highest point in San Diego and offers beautiful views of the mountains to the east and the ocean to the west.

We lived within five minutes of this park when we were in San Diego and absolutely loved it. My husband enjoys trail running, so we climbed Cowles Mountain several times a week and explored many other trails as well. Not a lot of shade on most trails, so hiking is best in morning and evening, but tons of lovely wildflowers.

Great hiking trails for all ages and fitness levels, some with great views of the city (such as Cowles Moutain). In the summer, it can get very hot, though, so bring plenty of water, sunscreen and a hat.
