Great beach town with a good beach for kayaking, SUP, Boogie Boarding and playing in the waves. The water is beautiful. The day I went I found the sand kinda hard-packed and gritty so not as great for working on your tan...but doable.

has a big parking lot, walk to avenida de la playa to get some food; sandwiches are good at the cheese shop. or sign up for surf lessons with surf diva. OR pick one of many sea kayaking tours of the caves. great fun

gentle waves most of the time

Too hard to get to- virtually no public transit options. The restaurants are overrated and overpriced + inconvenient. Foodies are much better off in ACTUAL San Diego neighborhoods, like Little Italy.

La Jolla Shores has a four block "Village" that ends at the
Beach. The best Restaurants, Grocery, Salons, Art galleries, and Surf shops, Kayak and Bike rentals all within walking to the county's premier beach. This is the best that San Diego can offer.

Very beautiful place to take photos and admire the sunsetting. Sometimes it's really hard to find parking especially the summer since the beach parking is limited.

I was looking forward to the stunning sunset but was surprised by the clouds! Nevertheless, still enjoyed the walk up and down the beach. Always loving the vibe and activity that happens no matter what time of the day it is.

By far one of my most favorite beaches in San Diego!

Peaceful beach with a lot of open space and grassy area that's perfect for a family get together or a game of volleyball. Parking can be tough in the summer so try the streets in the neighborhood. Great place for kayaking and swimming!

One of my favorite beaches in San Diego. A wide, mile-long beach with soft sand, clean water and gentle waves, La Jolla Shores is an ideal spot for families, sunbathers and beginner surfers.
The beach is cozy and comfortable, with a playground and grassy picnic areas at the adjacent Kellogg Park. It is consistently ranked as one of the best family beaches in the United States.
The beach offers a large parking lot and free parking on nearby residential streets. It is also accessible by public transportation,
Swimming, surfing and scuba diving are allowed. Lifeguards are staffed year-round from 9:00a.m. to dusk.
The areas surrounding the beach are wheelchair accessible. A limited number of beach wheelchairs with wide tires are available. See the lifeguards for more information.
This beach has bathrooms and showers, fire pits and volleyball courts. La Jolla Shores has the only beachfront boat launch within San Diego. No alcohol or glass containers allowed, and no smoking on the beach or adjacent areas. Please no litter or excessive noise. No dogs allowed after 9am. Dogs permitted after 4pm in the winter and after 6pm year round. No overnight camping.

The Coastline in La Jolla is stunning, and this is a great place to enjoy walking along the beach, surfing, sunning, or playing in the waves.

La Jolla Shores has amazing restaurants as well as several art galleries. After strolling through town, you can hang on the beach and watch the surfers or give it a try yourself. La Jolla Shores is the perfect family beach and is very clean and safe.

Weathered from a 75 million year old sandstone cliff, La Jolla’s seven sister caves had once been used by pirates. Only, the cargo they smuggled was human. The Transcontinental Railroad race had lured tens of thousands Chinese who competed against the surly, hard-drinking, fast-fisted Irish swinging hammers for the Central Pacific Railroad. Rising prejudice led to the adoption of exclusionary acts. These bans spawned the first commercial smuggling of contraband human cargo in the U.S. and the seven caves in La Jolla provided shelter for turn of the century profiteering pirates. Today, only one cave is accessible by land. Sunny Jim’s Cave, named after a 1920 British cereal box character and military mascot, can be accessed through a tunneled stairway in the historic La Jolla Cave and Curio Shop. Although human smuggling is still big business, it’s the trafficking of involuntary victims that’s got 42,000 Customs Border Patrol officers armed against the now $30 billion/year business.

I decided to chill on my second night in SD. A friend wanted to get some air after being stuck at a conference all day, so we hopped in my rental and drove here. We walked along a good amount of the area, and it was nice taking everything in. Well, everything that I could see, which wasn't much because it was dark out. I did get to check out the seals. It was so funny seeing all of them spread out lying around lazily in the sand. Cute! Too bad I didn't have my camera to document the moment. The weather was really nice that night. I wouldn't be able to take a stroll around a beach up here (in SF) at night without being all bundled up with the cold wind blowing in my face. I will definitely have to head back here during the day, maybe late afternoon as I've heard the sunset from here is incredible.

This is a fantastic beach to relax on, or if you're more adventurous to surf on or snorkel in. You can walk up to the Scripps Pier and on to Blacks Beach and Torrey Pines nature reserve. Both beautiful places. Word of caution - if you're going into the ocean shuffle your feet as there are a lot of stingrays at La Jolla Shores (I found out the hard way)

There are many beaches on the San Diego coast and La Jolla Shores is one of them that you probably shouldn't miss. It's a beautiful beach -but very crowded during the summer!
