similarity in appearance to a camel, look and you can clearly see the head and hump. Bring a long a few friends and check out the majestic, red sandstone peaks of Camelback Mountain. It is recommended that beginning hikers partake of the lower trails instead of traversing to the summit because of the danger and difficulty involved in the climb. You are sure to see an abundance of plant and animal wildlife on your visit.

If you're looking for a great workout, hit the trails on Camelback Mountain. There are two challenging hiking trails that go all the way to the top, and provide amazing views of the Valley of the Sun along the way. It's a pretty serious workout, though, so where comfortable clothes, solid tennis shoes or hiking shoes, and bring a big bottle of water! Echo Canyon Trail is steeper but not quite as long, while the Cholla trail is not as steep but takes a little longer. Both are pretty rugged, but well marked. It's a popular attraction, so it can be a little crowded mid-morning on the weekends. Plan on 2-3 hours if you go all the way to the summit. Trails are open until sunset.

Great hiking, not for the feint of heart. Bring lots of water & sunscreen. Don't touch the Gila Monsters!

Loved this hike and I've done many throughout the valley. A little challenging near the top because it's not marked well, but gorgeous views all around. The only problem is parking.

My absolutely favorite hike. Echo canyon trail can be somewhat difficult for a novice hiker. I hike this mountain every weekend and never get sick of the view.

This Phoenix icon is beautiful from a distance but even more spectacular up close. A great place to run or hike that is very close to the city. Be sure to plan for the heat and bring water, sunscreen, appropriate clothing and a fully-charged phone in case there is an emergency. Snakes can be a problem when it is hot and sunny.

I can honestly say that Camelback Mountain is the hardest hike I've ever done. The steep trails and vertical piles of boulders require good physical condition, and even seasoned hikers carry lots of water. But the spectacular views are worth the punishing is ascent. And if you arrive early enough, you'll meet the "regulars" – people who hike to the summit almost every single morning.

If you're looking for a tough, but really rewarding hike, this is it. Camelback Mountain is considered the crown jewel of Phoenix. Hiking it is considered a rite of passage. Just be careful when you go up here. It may only be three miles long, but those are some very, very steep miles. Bring plenty of water. More than you think you'll need. Expect to climb over plenty of rocks to get to the top. The view up there will be worth. But the journey to the top and back down to the bottom is rigorous and difficult. This is one of my favorite hikes, and I'd recommend it to anyone. Just be careful, bring lots of water and give yourself plenty of time to finish.

Camelback Mountain is a mountain in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. The English name is derived from its shape, which resembles the hump and head of a kneeling camel.

There are hikes for all ages. Flat and short for the littler ones to have a nature walk or hike all the way up to the peak for those more experiences. Gets steep towards the top with loose rock too. Great mountain to hike on!

Two trails to choose from. The Cholla Trail Intermediate and Echo Canyon Advanced. Either way bring plenty of water and wear proper shoes. If you're feeling less adventurous head to El Chorro, Sanctuary or Camelback Inn and enjoy the view of it.

The best mountain to hike when in town. The best part it's only 5 min from the house, or if you want bike and hike to it.
