You can't miss this Holiday Inn: The orange-colored edifice rises out of Midtown like a massive Creamsicle. The rooms are nice and colorful, and every window offers a splendid view of the city. There is nothing exceptional about this Holiday Inn; it's clean and homey and the pool area is relaxing enough. Soleil Bistro is a cute little restaurant with a nice menu and a surprising range of wines and cocktails. While I wouldn't really call its location "downtown," I love that this Holiday Inn boasts about its closeness to the light rail (one block away). There is so much to do in the neighborhood that savvy travelers won't even spend much time in the hotel, preferring instead to take advantage of its geography. The staff is very helpful in recommending things to do in the area, which is good, because there are so many galleries, restaurants, museums, and music venues that most visitors will get dizzy with possibilities.

This hotel is located near a bunch of others, but is in a really quiet area. Business travelers would probably like its costs and proximity to downtown. The on-site restaurant would be ideal for guests who don't like to venture too far from their hotel room for meals. Rooms are average with flat panels and big beds. If views are important to you, ask for a room that faces the street.

If you're looking for a centrally located hotel close to downtown Phoenix (but with better parking), the Holiday Inn Phoenix Downtown North has a good location and some nice amenities. The lobby is small, but very sleek and modern. The rooms are on the smaller side, but the decor is modern and everything was perfectly clean. There's in-room coffeemakers, a pool and jacuzzi, and a restaurant/lounge just off the lounge. Try to get a south-facing room on one of the higher floors for really beautiful views of the downtown Phoenix skyline. There is a hot breakfast buffet (for a small additional fee). There's also a small, but nice business center off the lobby. The hotel seems to attract more business travelers, but I did see a family celebrating a reunion when I was there.

Recently having been remodeled, the Holiday Inn Phoenix Downtown has a clean, modern look to it. Just walking into the lobby, I was immediately impressed. This 10-story hotel is one of the taller buildings in the area, so you can get some pretty good views from its rooms. A little tip from the front desk attendant: the odd-numbered rooms have a view of the mountains, and the even-numbered have a view of the city, so if you have a preference let them know. Although it’s not in the heart of downtown Phoenix, the Holiday Inn is only two blocks away from a Light Rail stop on Central Avenue, so transportation to and from local attractions shouldn’t be too much of a problem. The Holiday Inn does have its own restaurant, but if you’re looking for good Mexican food nearby I’d recommend the Gallo Blanco in the Clarendon, just a few blocks west.
