three main compounds. On the north side of the compound is the Silver Pagoda, to the south side is the Khemarin Palace, and the central compound consists of the Throne Hall. The buildings in the Royal Palace complex are built in the traditional Khmer style. Some of the buildings date from the 1800's while others are more recent additions.

Such beautiful architecture can be found here! I was a personal fan of the multi-headed snake statues and some of the amazing historical art around the site.

The most impressive sight in Phnom Penh, this is a must-see when in the capital. Be sure to cover knees and shoulders to gain entrance and to be respectful of local customs.

The palace is beautiful. If you go make sure you are dressed properly. Bringing a scarf for covering your shoulders is not accepted not matter how covered you are. You need at least a t-shirt. I was disappointed about the silver pagoda as it was all hidden by the carpets and you couldn't really appreciate the silver floor.

What a beautiful palace. The Khmer architecture really stands out and the silver pagoda is beautiful.
It is hard to believe it was built in 1866, and the palace is today still the residence of Cambodia's King and Queen.
I loved the murals along the palace walls, and there are plenty of displays of religious and royal artifacts.
The guided tours are informative, but without one you can still just enjoy the gardens and grounds. Worth a visit.

This is a must visit site in when Phnom Penh. The Royal Palace makes up a huge portion of the city's skyline on the riverfront and is very picturesque. It looks a lot like it's counterpart in Bangkok, with its traditional gilded roof. Make sure to spend time wandering around the gardens after visiting the palace and pagoda. Also, be sure that your shoulders and knees are covered out of respect.

The Royal Palace faces towards the East and is situated at the Western back of the cross division of the Tonle Sap River and the Mekong River called Chaktomuk, surface magnificent. The King is still lived here but we are not allowed to visit there.

Probably the most stunning of Phnom Penh's architectural sights. However, if your stay in Phnom Penh is short, I would prioritize the genocide memorial sights. You'll find better temples in Thailand and Laos.

The Royal Palace is filled with courtyards, Buddhist temples, and intricate designs. It's $6.25 for admission and with the vast size of the palace, expect to spend at least an hour there.

A cheaper alternative to Bangkok's Royal Palace, this impressive series of temples in the heart of Phnom Penh has to be one of the most peaceful spots in an otherwise fairly chaotic city. The architecture is remarkable, and I found myself taking more pictures of roofs than I ever imagined. Well worth a few hours.

The Royal Palace along with its Silver Pagoda is probably the most remarkable landmark in Phnom Penh. The palace is a fine example of classic Khmer architecture; it was built in 1866 under the French protectorate and King Norodom, and is currently the royal residence for the king of Cambodia. The Silver Pagoda — so named after its floor built with over 5,000 silver tiles — is a beautiful and important structure in the complex because it houses a treasure that includes plenty of gold and jeweled Buddha statues. Probably the most significant objects are a small 17th century baccarat crystal Buddha and a stunning Maitreya Buddha encrusted with 9,584 diamonds dressed in royal regalia.
