Jebel Shams is the tallest mountain in Oman, standing at just over 3000 metres in height and forming the dramatic pinnacle of the Hajar Range which dominates the skyline around Nizwa. The mountain is beautiful and is home to huge gorges on the way up to the summit and incredible vistas. There are walking routes and four by four trails on the mountain slopes, but it's best to travel with guides as this is rough, off-roading territory!

The Grand Canyon of Oman, located a 1.5 hour drive from Nizwa. Frankly, not very impressive if you've seen the Grand Canyon, Simien National Park or spent time in Jordan or the Sinai; however, it is still a point of pride for locals and the nearby villages are lovely.

Jabel Shams Grand Canyon is one of the deepest canyons in the world. It is visited by tourists from around the world for hiking, sightseeing, climbing, camping or just relaxing. The mountain is very peaceful and visitors can enjoy watching stars clearly since there is no light pollution from cities there.
