This is such a great place to have a meal. They've turned half of their cowshed into a restaurant. It's clean and comfortable and there are windows into the dairy portion of the shed. You can look in on the milking as you have dinner. As for the food, it's absolutely delicious. I'm in love with their geysir bread.

We stayed at the attached Vogafjoss Guesthouse during our two-day stop in Myvatn and of course, dinner at the Cowshed Cafe was a must. The cafe dining room is beautiful furnished in wood paneling with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the farm property, but additionally, there are windows that look into the Cowshed, where the milking cows sleep, as well as into where they're milked. This is obviously not for everyone, but... I love cows, and I got a kick out of it. There's no cow/barn smell in the cafe (someone mentioned this to me when I told them about the restaurant) - it's an entirely separated and closed cafe that you're sitting in, you just happen to have windows into where the cows are.

As for the meal - it was delicious. They have lamb and fish options, salads as well (which may be welcome, as they're hard to come by in Iceland). The food was fresh, well cooked and seasoned, and overall lovely. Service was also fantastic. We also had a WONDERFUL dessert of Geyser bread ice cream, which was awesome and which I am sad I will not be able to have in New York.

Overall recommend both staying, and eating here (my hotel review is forthcoming).
