World-famous Celine Dion can pretty much get married in any chapel that she pleases. That she chose Notre-Dame Basilica, a beautiful cathedral in Old Montreal, speaks to the historic building’s ... Read more
importance. The busloads of tourists agree, as visitors arrive to this attraction to view its beautiful stained glass windows, the Casavant Frères pipe organ and the Gothic Revival architecture. While the church’s façade is a work of grandeur, it’s the multi-colored interior that really amazes guests.

Currently Nortre-Dame Basilica offers a light show inside the church called Aura. The first part of the show you can walk around and take pictures of the church then the second part you take your seat where I would suggest finding a seat in the middle of the church as that is where you get the best view. The light projection in this show is pretty amazing to watch.

Beautiful historical church that's still active with weekly services. $6 CAD entrance fee, worth every penny. Long lines but moved quickly.

One of the most beautiful churches in the country, this is a must-see while in Montreal. The church is centrally located and easy to access.

The Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal, located in Montreal's Borough of Ville-Marie, is the mother church of Montreal, the largest in the Archdiocese of Montreal and the second largest church in Montreal. A veritable gallery of religious art, it houses ornaments whose richness has no equivalent in Montreal.

Absolutely breathtaking. If you are in Montreal, his place is a MUST! The incredible detail in the design and the rich history is well worth the six dollars it costs to get in.

Beautiful. Not the same Basilica in France. Have to pay a small fee to see but absolutely worth it.

The basilica has a rich history and beautiful art everything. However, it is a little selfishly kept. We are constrained to the first floor, and the sister chapel (no photos). Often the gift shop is closed, and there are few chances to explore more.

Spectacular. Like a drawing out of a brilliantly illustrated fairytale. Absolutely worth the 5 Canadian dollar entry fee. Plaques in honor of individuals like founding settler and founder of Montreal's Hotel Dieu hospital, heroine Jeanne Mance. Go behind the altar to the wood carved chapel, restored by traditionally trained carpenters and woodworkers after a fire in 1978 had destroyed the first two levels.

I cannot possibly say enough about Notre-Dame. A must see if you are in Montreal!! Bring a camera. Admission is reasonable and there is a private prayer room for those wanting to be away from the crowds. A must see!

Just look at the design and colors of the altar! It's a replica of the French Notre Dame Basilica, and it's worth checking out! You should bring a water bottle and try their water!

Guided tours are only $5! Our guide was amazingly knowledgable and covered a brief history of Montreal and Catholicism in the city. The sanctuary and chapel interiors alone are absolutely worth a visit to this church.

This is a very beautiful church with striking colors. They offer free tours included with your admission in both French and English. This is where Celine Dion got married.

Most incroyable not only the beauty but rich history of Saints whose lives were transformed in this holy place of grace. Learn how an incredible woman of Faith was transformed in this Cathedral. Married with three sons and by the time she was 28yrs old she would have lost all that she loved, her boys and husband and filled with deep grief, she continued her call to care for the poor and vulnerable and soon became the foundress of the Sisters of Providence in Montreal. Now Blessed Emilie Gamelin inspired the largest Catholic Healthcare system in the Pacific Northwest. She overcame impossible odds and survived!

Must See. Outside not remarkable. Inside beautiful, Montreal cathedral not to be confused with Paris' Notre Dame; it is not an imitation.

Be sure to see the back chapel rebuilt
after a vandal's arson. They did themselves proud.
