permanent art collection outside of a gallery or museum. The art displayed is all from the owner’s private collection, a mix of modern and classical work that blends together perfectly. The stunning building is a prime example of late 19th century Victorian architecture which was popular at the time and was prevalent in the neighborhood which was once Montreal’s financial district, the hotel itself was the original head office of the Montreal City and District savings bank. The entire hotel is a cultural experience, even the gym and meeting rooms are decorated with striking works of art; all in all this charming little hotel in Old Port of Montreal is more than a destination, it’s an creative experience.

After the lack of personality of a Holiday Inn earlier in the business trip this was a really distinctive hotel full of character close to many of old Montreal's good restaurants and tourist sites, as well as located conveniently for business meetings. Lots of genuine art on the walls, in the corridors, and in the rooms which were comfortable, quiet and well equipped. The one downside was the inability to get room service after a late arrival on a Sunday evening - the restaurant brings it in from other local eating places which had closed by 10pm. But a small quibble about an excellent stay.

This is probably one of the coolest boutique hotels in the city, particularly because the owner (lives on one of the upper floors of the hotel) furnished the establishment with his own art collection. There’s an international but American-friendly attitude in the place—I would say, a Hard Rock Café feel, with art work on the walls and a signed electric guitar. Because of the larger windows, the rooms themselves—which are elegantly designed—seem bigger. So perhaps you might not be surprised, given this initial description, that this is not a place for the budget traveller. But if you like your hotels to be classy, artistic, and comfortable, this might be the place for you.

Right in the heart of Old Montreal and adorned with one of the largest and most diverse private art collections in North America, L'Hotel is heaven for anyone who loves art, colour and all things vibrant. Walking into the lobby felt like I was walking into a fun, quirky museum with sculptures, avant-garde art and quirky decor (I spotted a zebra patterned chair and instantly fell in love). I always had a smile on my face after dealing with the staff. It's hard to not fall in love with the bright, high ceilings and the uniqueness of each room. Just a heads up: with Montreal's crazy parking rules, self-parking is a bit of a hassle but the hotel's valet service is a perk worth checking out.

This is a beautiful hotel in an incredible city. It houses a $400 million+ personal art gallery owned by Georges Marciano; one of the founders of Guess Jeans. The staff are more pleasant, patient, and accommodating than anywhere else I have ever stayed. Crawl you way through the stairwells. They probably don't get travelled much, but there's a treasure trove of autographed movie posters covering them! Each room is named after the artist whose adornments lie within. Loved it!

“A TREASURE AND A RESCUE ALL IN ONE”

Besides being an absolutely spectacular hotel, the staff of this hotel will do just about anything in the world to make you comfortable. In our case, we had a reservations miscommunication which almost left us with a place to stay. But that does not happen in the world of incredible customer service that is the staff of LHotel.

Following is the note I sent to David Hermo-Hernandez, Assistant to the General Manager of LHotel:

I do not know how to thank you for all that you did for my wife and our friends, Dominick & Charlene. In the midst of a reservation snafu, you came forward an gave us two of the best suites in your lovely hotel.

There were no questions asked. No aspersions cast. Just a definitive attempt to satisfy customers in the best and most efficacious kind of way.

We thank you form the bottoms of our hearts and we want you to know that you have made lifelong friends and customers of two families from Rochester, NY/USA. The world must know about how you and your staff
do business with such care and concern.

Merci beaucoups!

My wife and I got married in Vermont and decided to have our honeymoon in Montreal since it would be a pretty short trip, and we both love the French language and culture. LHotel was recommended to me and it turned out to be the perfect place! You can't beat the location, only two blocks from the Notre-Dame Basilique, and in the heart of Old Montreal. The staff were super friendly, and extremely accommodating. The hotel was filled with lots of modern art and sculptures which gave it a very hip vibe. The room we had was immaculate and incredibly comfortable. We were in a corner room and had a wonderful view of Notre-Dame right down the street. If you are going to Montreal, you have to stay here! There is no place better.

We didn't stay here, but this hotel hotel looked super nice! I loved the art and apparently, it's personally furnished by the hotel owner's own art collection. We didn't pop inside, but if I'm in Montreal again, I'd like scope out the collection. It's also very well located. Don't miss the cool LOVE art outside.
