Excellent location! Near the Duomo and the Pinacoteca (where you can find the Leonardo Da Vinci's Codex Atlanticus), set in the beating heart of Milan this hotel offer a nice stay! First of all the staff: cordial and professional. Secondly I found the rooms cozy and bright. Nice touch the choice to use essential and functional furnitures which creates also a nice and quite atmosphere. Bathrooms are quite spacious and tidy, hair-dryer is not missing as well as the bath tube. Wi-Fi and soft drink in the mini bar are free, (even free umbrella). Thirdly the breakfast buffet is terrific: plentiful with hot and cold choices. This hotel offers a great value for money, compared with the other hotels of the city centre this one can be one of the best choices.

I loved the Gran Duca di York, and I really could not believe it was only a three-star-hotel: it is far too beautiful and the service too good to not have four stars on its door. It even has a history, and do not you just love hotels when they do? Since it is right next the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, it used to be the hotel that gave hospitality to the art scholars who studied the treasures of the gallery since the XVIII century. And its strong bond with arts can be seen in the lobby where ancient masterpieces are hanging on the walls. The rooms are small, but clean and tastefully done with light colours and interesting paintings. When your room has a balcony, you are definitely in for a treat, because, even though small, they have a particular charm. The staff of the Duca has the great idea of offering complimentary books of short stories to their guests, which is very thoughtful if you forgot to bring something to read. A staying here is a pleasure both for the spirit and for the body.

This hotel is quite perfect for a short staying. Somehow in a contradictory way, it has a well-kept façade that makes you expect more than you should out of it, but once you walk inside it is quite impossible not to believe that it should definitely be awarded at least one more star for the standards and services it offers. Sure, it is not perfect and more than once I found myself wondering at some décor choices: i.e. the furniture, and especially the tapestry, seem to have never been changed since the 60’s and the breakfast room looks a lot like the canteen of a nunnery (which might not be a terrible thing, especially if you are looking for peace and quiet). One of my favourite features was the mini-bar with complimentary soft-drinks, that would make everybody’s day, especially after a walk in the heat of Milan.

I've been there for a weekend, behind the fantastic cathedral, a stone's throw from everything, maybe it's better to say

Behind the Milan Cathedral just minutes from the Metro stop. Ancient building restored respecting the original building gives the feeling of hospitality of the past. Warmth and passion on the part of the staff make the stay at the Duke of York an experience to live.
