Get your daily dose of history in, while exploring this completely preserved fort build by the Spaniards during the colonial period. The site also hosts a museum dedicated to the life and events of National hero Rizal, who was imprisoned here before being executed.

This is a historical place in the Philippines. This fort was used by the Spaniards during the war. It is also here where our national hero was jailed before sending him for execution in Bagumabayan (now Rizal Park). Across Fort Santiago is the Manila Cathedral.

While Intramuros was the hub for Spanish colonial rule for three-hundred years, Fort Santiago was the nerve center. Fort Santiago is over 400 years old, and is where the founding father of the Philippines, Jose Rizal was imprisoned, tortured, and eventually executed.

At the rear of Intramuros, this ruined fortification is one of the oldest sections of the city of Manila, its original constructions (now razed) predating the arrival of the Spanish. Used by the Spanish, the Americans and the Japanese at various times, today it's a quiet place for a wander away from the madness of Manila outside, and the Rizal Shrine offers a series of short exhibits on Jose Rizal, the Philippines' national hero.

Wandering around lost in Manila's Intramuros area, I accidentally stumbled upon this area. It has a nice view of the river near by as well as some good photo ops of some old canons. Not so far from the area is also some small street restaurants where a lot of the youth and people who were getting off from work were going to relax. I would recommend taking a chair and sitting down and learning more about the locals.
