I simply loved this hotel. Supposedly a place for business travellers, as it's located in the financial area of Madrid, the AC Hotel Cuzco could easily be a spot for luxury weekend travellers and those that have an appreciation for art and design. What struck me at first when I walked in the AC was the artwork in the lobby: metal sculptures, mirror work and paintings that enhanced the hotel's high style ambience. The lobby is also extremely conducive to quiet work sessions, with comfortable sitting areas as well as bar stools to bring out your laptop. Then there is the two-tiered bar – a rather spectacular design creating the effect of a large open space. All in all, AC Hotel Cuzco is one of those hotels that you could really just sit in all day and work, relax or be merry.

This is a straight up business hotel with more character than most. However, unless you're a big soccer fan and are in town to see Real Madrid play at their nearby Santiago de Bernabéu Stadium, the Cuzco area of Madrid isn't really much of a draw. From the looks of the guests milling in the hotel's lobby, it's pretty much strictly business.

That said, if you need to host a conference or be near Madrid's financial district, this hotel is certainly a fine option. Its interior is very modern, but not the soulless kind of modern that is so common in hotels. There's a bit of personality and style to the lobby, including its wall covered with framed prints, its very geometric sculptures, the silver curtains made of chains that separate the cafe area from the rest of the space, and the various red accent pieces throughout.

The standard I saw was located in a very quiet wing of the 300-plus room hotel, and like all rooms it had an exterior facing window. There was a small desk area, and the bed essentially took up the rest of the space. The bathroom had a large tub and toiletries under the AC Cuzco label. Overall, both the room and the hallways felt very clean and recently renovated. (The hotel was renovated in 2006, though I would have guessed more recently)

In addition to just about all the conference rooms one might ever need, the gym was fantastic and among the biggest I've seen. It was underground though, so no natural light.

Local from Madrid

Cuzco is known in Madrid for being a business district, as you'll often see throngs of mens in perfectly tailored suits strolling the streets either during their lunch hour or at the end of the work day, around 8 or 9 p.m. in the evening. AC Hotel Cuzco is right smack dab in the middle of this area, only meters away from Metro. Which makes it a great hotel for business travelers, who can easily get to and from their meetings as well as into the city center to unwind after those stressful meetings and debriefing sessions. It goes without saying that the AC Marriott standard is most definitely upheld in this property, by far.

The AC Cuzco is in a great location for any football fans! The day I arrived there was a big match between Madrid and Barcelona and the both the hotel and the metro were crazy busy!
The whole hotel was booked out but there was still ample staff to deal with the crowd. The restaurant and bar are really roomy and the menu looks tasty (I didn't get a chance to eat there though!)
The staff are more than happy to help anyone and a few of the staff were able to speak in Spanish, English and a few other languages too. Perfect for any international travellers!

When the Eurostars Madrid up the street is full, this is my favorite back up hotel in Madrid. Good clean, contemporary hotel. It is also owned by Marriott so has a U.S. connection.

Only negative is probably the hotel restaurant, not really worth going to.

Last time, I saw that Emirates puts up their pilots and stewardesses here.
