What first started as an off the cuff partnership between a hungry & talented chef (Ryan Johnston) in need of a kitchen and a desperate culinary school drop out in need of a chef (Arturo Kassel) has ... Read more
blossomed over the last 4 years into Whisknladle Hospitality. Together with our committed and passionate managing partners (Gabe & David) and our patient angel investors (????), we've continued to grow from one small and ambitious little restaurant to a small little restaurant group with even bigger ambitions. Since opening Whisknladle's doors in 2008, our company's mission has been to bring good food, good wine & great people together. Culinarily speaking, we take a back to the future approach to cooking by working with seasonal & farm to table products and taking the time to make most of our food from scratch; the way it used to be, they way it ought to be.

Also check out any of the Prep Kitchen resturants. You won't be dissapointed. My favorite thing to order is the cutting board from Prep Kitchen and the squid ink pasta. yum!

This restaurant is a hidden gem in La Jolla and best known among the foodie locals and trendsetters as one of the best dining experiences in San Diego County. I can tell you as a local of 10 years with a husband who was born and bred in SD that this place is above and beyond most places in San Diego. It's a short drive from North Park and a good excuse to get out to gorgeous La Jolla for the day. La Jolla Comedy Club is close by for a good after dining option and a walk along the cliffs at sunset is very romantic.

By far my favorite gourmet, farm-to-table, comfort cuisine in San Diego. I've never been disappointed, whether it was dining alone on New Year's Eve, celebrating a birthday, popping in for a happy hour or a casual brunch. The food is always extremely high-quality, the staff is far and away one of the best in town. You can tell the WNL Hospitality group hires first with passion as a qualification, then whatever skills the position requires. Go ahead, ask them anything, they all know the menu intimately down to individual ingredients and preparations, and you can tell they love it. Don't go falling in love with that favorite dish though, like that chestnut taglietelle, just keep coming back until it is rotated out for the next creative, seasonal option that takes it's place on this constantly evolving menu. A must try staple of the menu is the cutting board filled with house made meats, cheeses, pickles and bread and spread preparations.

Whisknladle is at the forefront of the San Diego culinary trend towards using locally-sourced, seasonal farm fresh produce. The restaurant collaborates with three local farms that provide produce to the restaurant group: Suzie’s Farms, Chino Farms and Milagro Farms. The innovative brunch menu features California cuisine with a regional Baja and Italian influence. The Grilled Ham & Cheese with Prosciutto de Parma, melted brie and apricot mostarda had just the right savory sweet combination to be a cheesy heavenly delight. The Rock Fish Torta was cooked to perfection. The crunchy house made potato chips are evil good and match nicely with the masterful selection of seasonal craft beers and cocktails.

We had wonderful service and delicious food at the Whisknladle. The food items are supposed to be farm to table and it was freshness we could taste.

Very nice ambiance, happy hour prices for drinks are totally reasonable but tapa prices are steep for the portions. Food is done very well tho! Burger was delicious and the fries with lemon zest were on point

The Whisknladle is an excellent choice for a date, a business dinner, or a nice evening out ( I didn't spend any time in the back bar, so it could be a good place to grab a drink as well). The front dinning area is open to the street, and can be closed in when bad weather strikes. Food was delicious, and while portions weren't large, they were filling, and just right. Service was friendly, helpful, and punctual. My water glass was never empty. I will definitely return here.
