Everyday along the road in downtown Kota Kinabalu you will see 'Pasar Pagi' and 'Pasar Malam'. The hawkers mostly sold T-shirt and quite cheap.

It was a good experience to walk down the Sunday market. You can find anything you actually need from local clothes, food, medicine, gadget, henna tattoo even dogs :)

A really nice experience to walk on through

Do you need something? Head to Gaya Street Sunday Market! They have everything you can think of, including birds, puppies, and durian plants. It's a great place to pick up some souvenirs. It can be hectic, so be careful of your stuff!

Every Sunday, from 6:00am to 1:00pm the central business district of Kota Kinabalu is transformed into a bustling open-air market that is chock full of tiny stalls under colourful wooden umbrellas. At the market, you can find almost everything under the sun including fresh produce, plants, pets, clothes and all sorts of interesting gadgets. This is the best place for you to purchase cheap souvenirs and sample local food. It can get very hot and crowded so make sure to come early and wear light airy clothes.

It starts early in the morning and is pretty much shut down by lunchtime. Most of what is being sold is junk, especially the cheap replicas and tourist t-shirts, but it might be worth a walk through the market to see some of the plants and other household items that fill the streets. Not the greatest for shopping for gifts though.
