A magnified display of everything wrong in our society: drug and alcohol addiction, "Christian" hypocrisy, full-scale promotion of ignorance and small-mindedness, flag-waving, hand-on-their-hearts jingoism, the unctuous announcer's obsession with fictitious 50s-era mores, predatory pricing in the name of charity, grown adults playing dress-up. It'll turn your stomach and empty your pockets. The only innocents here are the animals, and they're abused.

If you happen upon Houston in the month of March, you cannot miss the Rodeo! My favorite place to pop a chill is in the wine garden. With so much to do, it's fun for the whole family!

There is nothing else like it in the world and if you have the opportunity to go, do it! While it may not seem like something you'd do, there is nothing more Texan and Houston than the rodeo.

Enjoy this venue! It's a great place to check out our favorite band or musician. There is a turning stage so everyone gets a great view. Recommend sitting right above the fencing level. Had a seat up front and the fencing impaired the view. The second sat slightly higher and the view was much better.

The Annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is one of the largest rodeos out there! There are lots of big name musicians who come and play, hundreds of animals, numerous rides and games, and of course- lots of fun fried treats. This is a Texas experience you don't want to miss!

Start with the Chili Cook-off the weekend before the Rodeo starts for a taste of local food and fun! The Stock show is fun day or night where you can walk around and see different animals, food booths, and vendors. There is also an outdoor carnival. Each night after the bull-riding and mutton busting, enjoy music from big-name bands.

It's hard for "The Hippie" to be objective here. The Houston Rodeo carnival is fun - I mean, who doesn't love a good Ferris wheel? But then there's the aspect of rodeos being synonymous with animal cruelty... it's just an opinion, but The Hippie half of this review team just doesn't approve. So animal lovers and vegetarians, "steer" clear. Nothing to see here.

Amazing place to go. If you've never been, you have to go.
There is amazing southern food, BBQ, deep fried pickles etc, and there is basically a western showcase.

Every night there are concerts which bring marquee acts from the country and rock worlds in.

If you're still in doubt, youtube mutton busting.

If you're in Houston when the Livestock Show & Rodeo is going on you MUST GO. It's an absolute blast. Plenty of things to do - great food to eat, carnival rides, the rodeo and most importantly the animals. My favorite part has always been wandering through the livestock and admiring the sheer diversity of all the animals there.

Great fun: food, rides, livestock, concerts, it really shows off Texas culture and pride and is a great way to experience Houston during March. Be sure to get a sausage on a stick, a cold beer, and stop by Reliant Arena to check out the shops, art, and more.

If you're going to be in Houston during Rodeo season, it's a sin not to go! Everything is bigger (and better) in Texas. Food, shopping, animals and music!

A must-see for anyone lucky enough to be in Houston when the rodeo is in town. One of the most "American" experiences I have had. Much more than just the rodeo, the HLSR includes: a livestock show, shopping, food stalls, a carnival and a nightly concert. I live in NYC and I thought the rodeo was an absolute blast. Definitely the highlight of my visit to the city.

If you aren't with a local, consider taking a taxi to the venue. Cab fare from the Galleria runs about $20 and it will save you from 1) high parking fees 2) tempting the mega freeways after a few drinks.

Rodeo started at 5:45 on the day that we went. Definitely worth planning to spend time before and after the main event.
