Description
The USS Arizona was perhaps the most famous ship sunk on December the seventh, 1941 at Pearl Harbor. This massive vessel took more than one thousand sailors down with her, whose bodies she still ... Read more
protects today. This is one of the most moving memorials this side of the yet to be completed freedom towers in New York City. Visitors here are treated to a shuttle that takes them to the memorial, offers professional and moving narration, before returning to the main park grounds. Best of all, admission to this historic location is absolutely free, although it's based on a first come first served basis. Worth noting are the black tears of the Arizona. These minute traces of oil have been leaking from the vessel since she went down, and are thought to represent the constant tears shed as America never forgets this "date that shall live in infamy."

A great experience and opportunity to learn about important historical events in America's history as a world power. A humbling experience to visit the site where so many lost their lives on that fateful day. Plan to go early and research other Pearl Harbor options online to determine if you wish to visit other sites in addition to the Arizona Memorial. Visit www.LoveHawaiiVillas.com for more information.

Arrive early if you want to get tickets to the Arizona. Before you go to the memorial they'll show you a 25 minute documentary... bring tissues.

One must visit Pearl Harbor and Arizona Memorial to see and reflect upon the Dec 7, 1941's events, "the day that will live in infamy".

A great place to learn about what transpired here back in 1941. There's a video that you watch that gives a brief history of the events leading up to the attack, after the video then you get to board the boats and ferry on over to the Arizona. Be sure to get their early for tickets on weekends because they don't last long. If you don't get there in time for a ticket there are other available sights such as the Bowfin tour, there's a museum, and the Mighty Mo tour on ford island too.

It's a little eerie visiting this spot because the ship is still underwater and leaking oil... but that's what makes it so interesting and historic. You learn a lot by visiting Pearl Harbor overall but to be able to witness the ship is quite memorable.

This is probably the main attraction for Oahu and you will definitely want to go here if you are a WWII history buff. The welcome center has been remodeled and often there are veterans who are sitting there signing autographs and will speak with you.

It's calm and peaceful, but really reflective. You may be a tourist but it is such a moving site.

'Eerie' is the first word that comes to mind when thinking about the experience that is the Arizona Memorial. When you first arrive there is excitement and buzz as the crowds wait there turn to ride out into the Harbor. You can catch exhibits and whatnot but then before you know it, you're on a boat yourself and this is where eerie really starts to hit...

There's just a presence that cannot be explained as you arrive at the structure over the sunken Battleship with its history and the 'infamy' of the bombings at Pearl Harbor.

It's strange too because there are parts within the memorial where you can look at the ocean beneath you, see the beauty and its clarity, sometimes fish will swim by, and boom, you're hit by the hull of the sunken vessel.

Before your know it, you head back, try to process it as other people around you have their feelings. It's crazy when Veterans or their descendants are around because of what they experienced individually and as families.

You should visit this at least once on a trip to Oahu. It's worth the price of admission and is tragic beauty at its finest.

Most inspiring cemetery I've ever been to. Knowing that men that are still buried underneath you as you walk the grounds can only make you reflect on the positive things in your life and feel a sense of patriotism. I am thankful the government provides free tours here.

This was on our tourist list. Best visit. The tour is amazing. Only thing is that you are not allow to bring your purse, water and etc. I took a picture of their list of things you cannot bring. They provide you a locker if you have nowhere to put your belongings. You can bring your camera, camcord (not the bag for your camcord) and phone with you.

I think this place is very interesting and detailed about the USS Arizona of how it started, and how it sank. I think kids will love riding a boat and be above the sank ship. :)

If you're a history buff, you'll love it here. But even if you're not a history buff, the Arizona Memorial is probably one of the more important places of history to visit. The beautiful memorial won't let you under-appreciate the men and women who died at Pearl Harbor.

There's a good reason this WWII historic site is the #1 most visited tourist attraction in Hawaii. Examining the events of December 7, 1941, when the Japanese military attacked Pearl Harbor, this National Park Service (NPS) site is an emotionally moving place to visit, no matter what your political persuasion. A brand-new visitor center and museum opened in December 2010, so even if you've visited before, consider coming back just to tour the new multimedia exhibits. Next door at Bowfin Park, you can step inside a restored WWII submarine, or hop on a shuttle bus over to Ford Island to walk the decks of the Battleship Missouri. Tickets for the USS Arizona Memorial boat tour can be reserved online in advance; without reservations, get there as soon as the park opens for last-minute tickets (about 2000 are reserved for first-come, first served visitors, but they may all be gone within an hour).

This is not a "loved it" place. its a place for respect and reflection upon those who perished below the water when the Arizona was sunk on 7, Dec, 1941.

For locals, the USS Arizona Memorial is a bit underappreciated much like Alcatraz for San Franciscans. Often viewed as a tourist attraction, it's really a profound place of history. Anyone who has been out over the sunken ship knows how powerful it is to look down at its ruins.

Arizona Memorial may not charge an admission fee but it will cost you time. Not only do you have to wait to get into the theater, but you'll also have to wait to get onto a boat to be taken out to the memorial itself. It's definitely not something that you can go in and out of in an hour.

Profoundly moving experience, that shouldn't be missed. You can actually see some ghostly high sections of the ship Just under the surface of the water. Flowers dropped in respect float by, mixing with the oil that is still slowly leaking from the ship, "like the ship's tears."
