Hollywood Vacations

Often confused for its West Coast namesake, Hollywood, Florida shares the sun and palm trees of it's more famous sister city. Yet unlike tinsel town, this Hollywood has some of the best stretches of gorgeous white sand South Florida beaches. Swathed by turquoise tropical waters, Hollywood has maintained an old Florida small town character in a sea ... Read more
of downtown cityscape that stretches from Miami to Fort Lauderdale. Compared to its metropolis neighbors to the north and south, Hollywood offers a lower-key tropical escape, with an emphasis on the scenery rather than the scene. Dive on a living coral reef, bar hop along Hollywood's somewhat kitschy beach boardwalk or test your luck at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino. And, in late spring and summer months, keep your eyes peeled for nesting sea turtles. This is one of the best places in the country to see these ancient reptiles. No matter what time of year you come, don't forget your sunscreen. This is year-round beach town USA.

mid 70s (24C). While battling the crowds is normally something to avoid, this area has a pretty tolerable high season, in part because there are enough hotels to handle the spike, and also because the city is alive and buzzing with exciting activity, including the splashy Art Basel Miami Beach in December, during this time. The alternative would be to come between May and November when the weather is hot, reaching 90F (32C), and hurricanes are ever-looming.

Outside of Miami proper is small town of Hollywood, perfect for that Miami summer without Miami problems!

Hollywood is definitely a tourist trap city with a movie background. Come for the theaters and avenue of stars, but the better city is Los Angeles.

Since being a local here, I hardly ever go to Hollywood since there are tourist everywhere. Don't be expecting to see any celebrities near the hub of Hollywood, unless it's a premier, award show, or club openings. The closest thing you'll get to see is one those wax figurines.

The great thing about Hollywood here is the history of it. Go see the hand prints, hike up to the Hollwyood sign, and if you're a night owl, go to the hottest clubs in Los Angeles in Hollywood.

There are also great restaurants around the area and plenty of subways to get to this destination. If you want to be a tourist for a day, come to Hollywood. You'll find plenty of folks from different countries and kindred travelers.

Well, you have to see it, but unless you're a really celebrity-chaser, it's just a big expensive enclave. The coast is better.

This place was a total disappointment. It just is not a place I would care to go again. Bums and rude people. Smog and everything over priced.

Probably the best thing about Hollywood is that it does not FEEL like a big city. Squished like a Cuban sandwich between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, you'd think Hollywood would be the worst of the worst tropical urban nightmares. But fear not, this city between two cities has maintained a Main Street USA feel, even if that feel includes a few palm trees and margaritas. Hollywood also has one of the best beachside boardwalks in the state. Largely absent in Florida, the boardwalk of NE coastal towns meets the Latin "Malecon" in this seaside adaptation of revelry and cheap beer. Great place to hang.
