Built in the late 1800's as winter homes for these 2 American Icons you can walk their grounds and gardens and see artifacts that are still in the houses. At the Edison house you can see his old laboratory virtually left as he left it the day he died. Great history and very nice homes.

Fort Myers isn't known to have a ton of touristy attractions but the Edison and Ford winter estates bring the history of the city to life. Edison is said to even have the early development of the lightbulb in his home here. It's a little on the pricey side but a very cool thing to do for those who don't know the history of the city and the history of the palm trees alongside McGregor Blvd. Great activity for the family.

Interesting historical location where Thomas Edison and Henry Ford wintered, wonderful gardens also on the river. Then head downtown to the Veranda for lunch.

The grounds are gorgeous. You have the option of a guided tour or a self led audio tour. We enjoyed the time here learning about these two men. There is some shade but it's outside go earlier in the morning if possible.

The Ford and Edison Estate Tour takes you back in time to when these two great inventors spent their winters in Fort Myers on the Caloosahatchee river.
Enjoy a wonderful educational trip back to the inventors' restored winter homes. Outstanding architecture, restaurant and marina on the Chattahoochee River

It's a pretty cool place overall. A bit pricey. I would say kids would like it but it's more of an adult place to visit. Very beautiful.

Great history along with gobs of charm directly on the River, 3 minute drive from our house, or a 10 minute walk. See the beautiful homes buddies Thomas Edison and Henry Ford built and lived in during the winter months. Walk back in time while taking in the riverfront, a multitude of fabulous plantings and trees, and lovely turn of the century architecture. For real history buffs, the museum on the premises allows you to follow the whole story of how these two greats came to Ft. Myers and their impact on the town...one of which was the planting, at Thomas Edison's expense, of all of the Royal Palms lining McGregor for miles. A great activity that will fill a morning or afternoon.
