Faro Vacations

Nestled on the southern coast of Portugal, Faro is the heart of the country's Algarve region, where crisp blue waters and international cuisine is known to rival those of the French Riviera or Italy's Amalfi coast. There are charming walkways, a walled historic town and pristine islands. But it's also known as the home to some of Europe's best ... Read more
beach parties where tourists pursue wild nights and sunny days. Faro and a few other Algarve resort cities like Albufeira contrast sharply with the small, downtempo fishing villages that dot the region, but if nightlife and bustle is what you’re after, this is the perfect destination. The city lies in close proximity to the Rio Formosa lagoon, a marine nature park, and a visit is a common itinerary item when in Faro. The city and region both have very defined tourist seasons, but Faro’s offseason is underrated due to the great year round weather.

Faro was not on my plan to travel but I was stuck here one night because there weren't any buses from here to Seville, Spain until the next morning. I am glad I got to enjoy a small town Portgual for 1 night and bought port wine from here.

Capital of the Algarve, Faro offers an historic centre of bygone earas. Faro is also a shoppers haven, with modern designer shops.

I didn't rate Faro as a destination very much but I think that is mainly because it is not designed for tourists such as myself. This is a family place, with large resort style hotels on the outskirts and some fantastic beaches nearby. There is little in the way of culture on the Algarve but plenty to keep children entertained from water parks to zoos. That said, there are some really nice restaurants in the town and the main waterfront square plays host to arts and crafts markets that are nice to explore.

Faro is nestled on the southern coast of Portugal, Faro is the heart of the country's Algarve region, where cerulean waters and mouthwatering cuisine rival those of the French Riviera or Italy's Amalfi coast (Canadian Press, 2013).
But unlike some beach towns that are all sun and no soul, Faro is more than postcard-perfect views. There are charming walkways, a walled historic town and pristine islands. Here are some tips for experiencing what the city has to offer.

Your destination to discover the Algarve coast, Faro is still a city to be discovered! Less touristy than many other cities along the coast, Faro has a very lived in local vibe. I loved the mix of old and new!

i found personally the portugese people did not have a great personality towards english speaking tourists, temperature in the evenings got very cool which was surprising. faro was a very quite laid back place not your bustling buzzy place.

I did not spend enough time there - just walked around the old city. It's quite OK, however the moisture and heat do damage most of the buildings. Anyway, it's a nice calm place. A good starting point for exploring Portugal south coast. It is also very convenient for a trip to south Spain - Huelva, Seville, etc...

Good time
