Coronado, California, rests on a peninsula in San Diego Bay. It climbed to fame as a resort town in the late 19th century and is still home to a few major resorts, one of which, the Hotel del Coronado, dates back to 1888 and was said to have inspired L. Frank Baum’s Oz. Downtown, along Orange Avenue, shops and restaurants offer alternatives to the ... Read more
beach, and a few professional theater companies entertain at night. Coronado is small, easily accessible by foot or bike, and is also home to a Navy SEALS training base. The town is connected to the mainland via the “Silver Strand,” a coastal road trailing scenically to Coronado, also known as the “Emerald City.”

Rented bikes in downtown San Diego and caught a ferry ($5 one way) to Coronado where we checked out the visitor center, beaches, hotel del Coronado, and actually spent a lot of our day at the Dog Beach watching hordes of super cute dogs play in the ocean. Great place to spend a day and catch some rays. The beaches were wide and well kept!

Beach bars, sunsets, and models. Coronado is an odd but relaxing slice of the universe. A great weekend getaway, it is easy to wonder why you didn't spend an extra day at the gym after all. Check out the beach bars and that sunset. Find a friend. It ain't that kinda beach :-)

Beautiful beach in southern California. Besides a handful of nice houses and many boats anchored on the bay side the highlight of Coronado, is up to the Hotel del Coronado. this gigantic building in late Victorian style, the destiny one of the most popular and finest vacation destinations in California
