Colorado Vacations

Colorado is truly a wonderland of outdoor activities, with the Rocky Mountains to the west, and scores of parks preserves and other protected areas scattered throughout the state. Skiing and snowboarding are legendary here, of course, with household names like Aspen, Vail, and Telluride, and myriad smaller resorts sporting great local flavor. In ... Read more
the summertime, the mountains offer outstanding hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing and more. Rocky Mountain National Park, a short drive from Denver, has stunning views from its trails and roadways, including snowy peaks and alpine lakes, even herds of elk sauntering through the high valleys. Elsewhere in the state, you can marvel at the ancient mud dwellings at Mesa Verde National Park, or peer into the dizzying abyss at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Monument. For families on the move, Dinosaur National Monument and Great Sand Dunes National Park are sure-fire hits. And Colorado isn’t just for outdoorsy types; it’s got a team in all four professional sports (plus soccer and lacrosse), and lively dining and nightlife in cities like Denver, Boulder, and Colorado Springs. Music lovers can catch a concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre or an aria or two at the historic Central City Opera House. And if any place loves a good street festival it’s Colorado, with annual shindigs like the Great American Beer Festival in Denver and Frozen Dead Guy Days in Nederland, among many others.

general rule, temperatures decrease as you increase elevation, though prices skyrocket as you get closer to ski resorts. Weather tends to blow over quickly here: snow in the morning can be followed by a sunny 70 degrees (21) in the afternoon. Beware of April since last minute snow and hail storms are known to hit unexpectedly, but by May, Colorado has started to thaw out. Summers are typically hot and dry with occasional afternoon thunderstorms that quickly blow over, while fall is best seen in the mountains, where golden aspen leaves blanket the magnificent Rocky Mountains.

Outdoor lover's paradise. If you like being outdoor, you are meant to love Colorado. There are high altitude mountains for hiking enthusiasts, rivers for water sports, countless parts, and more. Colorado is one of the healthiest states in the US. If you're not used to living in high-altitude, you would need some adjusting time before getting to any activities.

There are few other states that can claim close to the variety of outdoor activities, natural beauty, historic heritage and oddball culture of Colorful Colorado. Colorado is the US's most mountainous state, with over 50 14,000 foot peaks to climb. The mountains are also home to the nation's best skiing and the ghost towns of the Gold Rush. Despite the snowfall for which Colorado is known, it's also sunny 300 days a year. There are countless reasons to vacation here.

Proud to have been raised in such a beautiful place! Though it lacks some of the touristic appeal of coastal states, Colorado has all the variety and more of much larger states. Whether fancy dining or designer shopping or gold mine tours or craft beer drinking or downhill biking is your scene, there is plenty of opportunity scattered throughout Colorado. Come and visit!

There's something about the blue skies and the clean air that just put you in a good mood. That John Denver was right... the Rockies really are irresistible.

If you like the outdoors you'll like this place, in the city they have bike friendly streets with bike lanes. Cherry creek park is also a nice park to visit. Snow play is a must in this city.

It's my home state, so maybe I'm a little biased, but Colorado pretty much has everything going for it: great weather, spectacular scenery and an eclectic culture. There is no end to the number of 14ers to climb in the Rocky Mountains, or the number of microbreweries to be found throughout the state. No matter what type of sport you're into, you will find it here: from mountain biking, to skiing, to caving, to skydiving. Many locals will say that they once came here for a weekend vacation - and never left.

Great state. Lots to do, and has a great outdoor scene. Would enjoy it a lot more if the weather is a bit better (warmer). Would rank in my top 10 states. Wish you could drive a little less there also.
