It inspired some of the NASA scientists of today and may just spark that pivotal interest in the space explorers of tomorrow. The oldest planetarium in existence today can be found alongside Chicago’s ... Read more
Field Museum of Natural History and Shedd Aquarium. The museum has three theatres that offer entertaining and educational shows. In the historic Sky Theatre, a Zeiss Planetarium projector accurately reproduces the movement of every aspect of the night sky. You can also enter Deep Space in an exciting multi-media interplanetary adventure. Of course, there are plenty of interesting exhibits with telescopes and hands-on displays, as well as occasional special events that help visitors further their understanding of the realm beyond where gravity keeps us.

I've only been here a couple times and I love t every time. The sky room is where my rival schools prom is being held. It's beautiful.

Adler After Dark is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. Also, the view of the skyline from the planetarium is ridiculous. Highly recommend if you have the time.

The Adler Planetarium is easy to spot on the Chicago skyline, but inside is a hidden treasure trove containing the mysteries of space. For imaginative children and adults alike, the theatre is probably the best part. You can recline back and stare up into the cosmos. Truly a humbling yet informative experience

I'm not sure I would rate this the best value for the ticket price, but I could see how you could make a day of it if you have small children. I think some additional exhibits would be useful in helping to fill the time between planetarium shows. again, probably really great for kids since there was a lot that appealed to young students and families.

Fantastic planetarium. It is a great escape! Be sure to purchase a movie or two. The movies in the dome make you feel like you are traveling. The 3D movies do the same in a different way.

Although it's not as interactive as one would hope a museum to be, the presentations make up for what's lacking in other departments. I'm not a fan of museums in general, but I fell in love with the view of the stars from Adler. Stop by if you have the chance!

Confession: I have the shortest attention span in the universe when it comes to museums. But! The planetarium kept me engaged far longer than any other museum I've ever been to. The films, especially, are really well done. Make some time to sit in a dark theater and stare up at the stars.

When you're in town, look for Adler After Dark. This happens once a month; it's a 21+ event on a Thursday night, and it's a whole lot of fun. Bring a date!

If you are into astronomy, then this is the place for you! It's not really great for the casual museum goer just because it is not as interactive as the other museums in Chicago are. Also, the admission price is pretty steep. They have an amphitheater where they do really cool presentation, that makes up for the rest of the museum visit if it drags. I would recommend it if you are curious but otherwise skip it;there are plenty of other great museums in Chicago.

The oldest planetarium in the western hemisphere. Next to the Shedd Aquarium and the Field Museum. They have some cool exhibits about the universe and space. Visiting all three nearby sights might be overload, but if you are in the area I'd recommend stopping at all three

The planetarium itself is a 3 star but the views of the city from the planetarium are the best in the city. One of my favorite view points in Chicago.

Best view of the city is from the steps of the Planetarium! Adler After Dark is a 21+ event on Thursday nights and is a great way to see a more exclusive side of the Planetarium.

If you like learning, you'll LOVE the Adler. With one of the best skyline views of Chicago, this museum is as visually beautiful as it is mind-enriching. Check out "Alder After Dark" for a unique cocktail hour held here on the third Thursday of every month.

Was beautiful to sit around back during winter and just look out at the Lake all frozen and beautiful. Seemed to go on forever, just us and the Lake and Lighthouse. Great place :D

A lot different then it was 20 years ago. Very juvenile. The show was boring and the employees were rude and unhelpful. I would recommend that you save your money and enjoy something else.

There are some pretty cool shows here at the Adler Planetarium and it's important to get there early so you can grab the best showing as your ticket (if you buy CityPass) comes with a show but you have to reserve it once you are there.

The planetarium is actually a lot bigger than you think, so make sure you reserve enough time to walk around all over because in every corner, nitch, nook and cranny there are some really cool facts you can find and cool displays as well.

Make sure you stop by the cafe while you're there, some pretty decent fares for museum food and gives you energy to browse for a bit longer.
