Castries Vacations

Home to more than a third of the island's total population, St. Lucia's capital is something of a paradox: at times busy and congested while at other times quiet and peaceful, the Castries' coastal urban culture encompasses both a laid back island lifestyle and an ambition to modernize. The town wraps around its main port where cruise ships dock ... Read more

Spend the day enjoying the vibrant street life of the city, dine at a waterfront restaurant or explore the surrounding remains of several forts and batteries scattered throughout low-lying hills.

This port city is the largest in St. Lucia and a great place to go shopping or check out the local craft market.

A vibrant city with a cute, though touristy market and fun port. The restaurants offer authentic Caribbean food and the people are great.

Another great city to see. I took the shopping tour while on vacation. It is like a giant flea market. They also have many small businesses, and well known businesses too.

In general, the tourist capital of St. Lucia is a bit disappointing. The souvenir market is full of hokey junk and bad t-shirts, and the rest of the town center is none too atmospheric. Maybe the best experience available is wandering through the vegetable markets, or heading up the hill to check out the old church and cemetery there - even if it's not stellar sightseeing, the places at least have some character.
