What an amazing staff – Julieta, who took me around, was warm and welcoming while remaining highly professional. When I had to leave before booking a room, she handed me a bag containing information regarding the hotel, all printed on beautiful paper. I felt like I’d just been handed a party favor, and it definitely made me want to come back. The rooms are comfortable and gorgeous, and I loved the black and white photographs of tango dancers hanging in every room. Another highlight is the hotel’s gourmet Indian restaurant – an original epicurean choice in Buenos Aires, where it is sometimes difficult to find more ethnic food options. (Julieta was quick to add that for those who don’t like Indian food, the restaurant’s chef has many other options). And then of course, there’s the fact that CasaSur is located in the heart of Recoleta, a beautiful neighborhood filled with art galleries and luxury boutiques.
Probably the best thing about CasaSur is its location. Recoleta is a very safe neighborhood, and the hotel is really close to the cultural centre, La Biela, a historic café, and the famous Recoleta Cemetery. Though it's an art hotel, the only artistic things are really the various portraits and photographs in the lobby. As a hungry vegetarian, it was really nice to see that they have Indian food. The spa and gym services are very comprehensive. Being a small hotel I expected a bit more personalized service, and I felt service was ordinary given the price tag.
One of the oddest things about this hotel is that its restaurant is managed by an Indian restaurant chain. Argentines don’t really eat a lot of spicy food. Breakfast was the the same kind of buffet fair you get in most hotels in Buenos Aires, but it was a surprise to find an Indian menu in the restaurant at dinner time. What was also really weird was the huge painting the put up for the rooms at the back of the hotel which hides the view of the neighbours’ washing lines. Service was fine, but nothing to write home about. It just felt a little bit of a “nothing” hotel. There wasn’t really anything which stood out as being particular in any way. It’s been around for a long time, about 50 years the staff told me, but I’m not sure that it’s lasted so long for its creativity.
The Casasur Art Hotel has a really nice Indian restaurant incorporated into it, a great, unique change from the usual Argentine fare which you can find anywhere. Upon arrival they give you a complimentary welcome drink, which was a really nice touch, and you can have it at the lovely wine bar or in your room. The regular room was a bit snug, but still quite luxurious and comfortable, though the lovely bathroom only had a shower, no tub. The suite has a medium-sized living room and a medium-size bedroom, each with their own bathroom (still no tub, but nice marble showers). The spa is really extensive, relaxing and lovely, which was surprising for such a small hotel. The staff speak excellent English and are really helpful and friendly. It's a pricey neighborhood, so their prices are a good deal, and the attention to detail and personable staff make all the difference.
This boutique hotel in central Recoleta is a real gem. The place is gorgeous and has great facilities.
The restaurant stands out from other hotel restaurants in the area as it serves contemporary Indian cuisine, which is a rarity in steak city, Buenos Aires.
Casa Sur offers well-designed suites that have separate lounge/bedroom areas and two bathrooms for each section so it’s perfect for receiving guests or holding business meetings. Rooms, particularly the standard rooms, aren’t that big though and the bathrooms are lacking tubs.
Downstairs in the basement you can use the hotel’s spa, hot tub and massage rooms. It all looks and feels great and is very relaxing. The bar and lobby are also pleasant and the breakfast area is satisfactory. The staff were all super friendly and spoke excellent English. This is a great option if you’re looking for something more modern in Recoleta.
