that comes along with gameday in Boston. I happened to be at the Buckminster when the Yankees were in town and had a good time watching out the window as hoard of fans came up from the T and turned the corner over to the park, while vendors and ticket scalpers aggresively peddaled there wares. The location of the Buckminster is also ideal for BU students and their families, or anyone interested in shopping and dining, as there are tons of excellent restaurants nearby, and newbury street is only a short, pleasant walk away. The rooms here are decent, but nothing especially jaw dropping. The décor is a bit sparse and some of the carpeting looks like it ought to have been replaced ten years ago, but you get what you pay for. Remember that this is an older building, so don’t expect the elevators to be high speed or the windows to be soundproof.

I've stayed here a couple times and the last time they had just completed a renovation which was needed. they did a good job. We stayed in an efficiency suite which had a little kitchen and a view of Kenmore Square. two minute walk from Fenway!

This hotel has a great location since it is close to Fenway Park, Boston University, some great restaurants, and the Kenmore station. It's in an old storied building with character and charm. Apparently the hotel used to house a famous jazz club where Ella Fitzgerald and other famous artists would play. With that said, it feels a bit outdated. The gym is tiny, it can really fit one, maybe 2 people. The rooms are clean but feel old, and a bit small unless you get one of the suites. The suites do have a fridge and a full kitchen, and it's a good price for the location, but if you are fine staying in a different neighborhood, you can probably get a better value elsewhere.

Located in the heart of Kenmore Square, a five minute walk from Fenway Park and a few universities (BU, Northeastern, Berklee to name a couple), Buckminster is truly a convenient place to stay no matter what you're visiting the city for. Since it's situated right next to the bus and T at Kenmore station you've got access to anywhere. (If you're not down and dirty for public transit, there's a cab stand a little down the street outside the slightly fancier Hotel Commonwealth). This comes without the hustle and bustle and congestion of a hotel closer to downtown, at least in the off season. During baseball season, the location is prime for Sox fans, but expect enormous, rowdy crowds and bumper to bumper traffic on game nights. Baseball history buffs will also be excited to learn that the Hotel, at its prime in the 20s, played a role in the 1919 Black Sox scandal, with Shoeless Joe and the other so-called "black Sox" staying there. The hotel was where the White Sox supposedly shook hands with bookies and agreed to throw the series. (I maintain their innocence.) While there might not be room service, the small restaurant/bar downstairs is comfortable and inviting, not to mention the delicious deserts they've got on the menu. The rooms and amenities are nothing fancy (and not always in 90 degree angles), but enough to warrant a pleasant and comfortable stay. With connected room suites available as well, families can get their space from each other while traveling. A place that really makes you feel at home and part of the neighborhood, Buckminster has also been know to host both families and otherwise homeless college students for longer periods of time, with some of their rooms including full kitchens.

First to Review

The first thing you'll notice about this hotel is its awesome location right next to Fenway Park and Boston University. There are so many great restaurants and shops within walking distance that you probably won't even want to spend much time in the hotel anyway. But this hotel has a lot of character, from its unique, rounded exterior to its non-cookie cutter variety of room types. There are quite a few suite rooms that have more than one bedroom, which is ideal for families or larger groups of friends that want to split one room cost instead of getting two separate guest rooms. The entire second floor of the hotel has been newly renovated to include only superior king and queen rooms, which have full kitchens and nicer upgrades like hardwood floors. They don't offer room service, but they will bring deliveries from third parties to your door, which I thought was nice. However, they also offer complimentary breakfast and there's an Uno restaurant attached to the hotel if you still get hungry!
