I was absolutely thrilled with the Hilton Berlin. It's one of the best Hilton's I've stayed in, and I wouldn't hesitate to book this hotel again. The location is nearing perfection, right next to the Deutscher Dom (ask for a room with an eye-popping view of the landmark), across the street from the yummy Rausch chocolate shop, and within a one to two block walking distance from several subway stations. Plenty of shops and restaurants are nearby too, and if you take public transport you can get to most of the city's major tourist attractions within minutes.

The room itself was pretty standard, on the small side, but very comfortable. There's a nice workspace desk, a clean bathroom, and an in-room mini-bar. The employees were hospitable and spoke perfect English (among several other languages).

My room was on the Executive Floor which meant I had access to the Executive Lounge and a stunning complimentary breakfast. The lounge was large and overrun with business people throughout the day and got very crowded. It was still a nice place to hang out with heavy snacks and free soft and hard drinks. The breakfast was absolutely top notch, one of the best spreads ever. Think fresh pastries, pretzels, coffee, juices, bacon, yogurt and more. They had free sparkling wine too! It was an amazing assortment of food (and I'm not even a breakfast person). I'd stay here again for the breakfast alone.

There's a cab stand right outside the front door, making it easy to get a ride to the train station or airport if you're in a hurry. The Hilton Berlin is one of my favorite chain hotels in Europe.

I’ve stayed in plenty of Hilton hotels over the years. They all have that Hilton signature about them – grand open spaces, smart design, authentic hospitality. This one, however was different. It was better. More refined, more elegant, more detail-oriented. I walked into a marble lobby with an enormous and spectacular atrium. There was beautiful art on every wall, sculptures dotted all around; high end boutiques situated in the lobby; a barber shop; a beauty salon. The whole allure of the place felt more like I was actually at The Ritz. When I asked the receptionist about things to do in the city, she gave me a meticulous guide that seemed really designed based on my questions and needs. All in all, I was seriously impressed. It’s a Hilton done very well indeed.

Hilton fits perfectly in the area it is located:Gendarmenmarkt, lovely restored square in Mitte, and the site of the Konzerthaus and the French and German Cathedrals. Its building and the interior design in the lobby, bar and lounge with the piano (a pianist plays it at least once a day) are based on neutral earthy colours like beige, brown and black, with luxurious accents and more modern sculptures and vases. The rooms are lovely, especially the ones facing the square. If you don't want to pay an extra for the room with the view don't worry, the breakfast area is in perfect location overlooking the cathedrals. The wellness area has pool, sauna, spa and solarium. Inside the hotel there is even a hairdresser if you fancy!

The Hilton already comes with a pre-packaged reputation, and I would say it meets it quite well. Although a little 70s, the decor is lovely, and the rooms are as comfortable as you would expect. It does cost significantly extra to have wifi in your room, which is unfortunate, and the service can be very good, but isn't always perfect. I would say if you're looking for a really stupendous hotel, there are many others in Berlin, but you can also count on this one for a standardized level of quality.

The location of the Hilton is very good. The subway is close (we took the subway from the airport) and a number of tourist sites are within walking distance. Typical great breakfast and very nice rooms. There is even a tremendous chocolate shop almost next door.
