Description
n the 1970's, Stubb’s restaurant became the heart of an explosive music scene. Stubbs was ground zero for musicians like Joe Ely and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Other famous musicians who would “play for their ... Read more
supper” included Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Robert Cray, George Thorogood, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Linda Ronstadt and the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Although small in size, Stubb’s Restaurant was always filled with good friends, great music and plenty of Stubb’s Legendary Bar-B-Q. The Lubbock location is now closed but the legend continues here in Austin at 801 Red River. Come on down for some Live Music, Cold Beer and Great Food!

Enjoy concerts at this music venue! Recently watched Gogol Bordello perform and Nathaniel Ratliff and the Nightsweats perform. Intimate and if you arrive early enough can be in the front row. Standing only. VIP serves great snack food however, being on the floor is a better music experience than the elevated area for VIP.

I've only been here for shows during SXSW, but I've had a good time here! I'm not sure what it's like during the test of the years, but there's a great atmosphere for SXSW. Plus, I've had Stubb's BBQ before, just not on site and it's solid.

Famous downtown music and food venue providing a great Gospel Brunch on Sundays and live music on weekends and barbeque throughout the week!

I came for lunch the other day, as my friend was craving a chopped beef sandwich. We both had the same, and left with a big smile. The old school wooden floors are worth mentioning, and of course there is a massive live music venue attached.

Stubb’s is well known for its satisfying barbeque and outdoor amphitheater, but it’s also got a great indoor stage and a fabulous gospel brunch every Sunday. If you’ve never travelled to Austin before, I highly recommend this adventure. Brunch includes mouth-watering eggs and brisket. The life-affirming gospel music will raise your spirits and start your day off right.

The BBQ here was alright. Pretty mediocre. The wait was way too long for what it was. I prefer other BBQ places like The Salt Lick BBQ, or even the ones out in the West coast tasted better than here. The side options were limited, and basically, the whole menu was limited. They have live entertainment outdoors on some nights (for extra $$), and the beer options aren't too bad here. I'd come back here for a show but not the BBQ.

Given how well known this place is, I was worried about it being a total tourist trap. It was not perhaps the most authentic Austin ace out there, but rally did not feel touristy when we went for the Sunday gospel brunch. Music was great, as was the food, although the BBQ was ironically the least interesting part of the meal

This is a great downtown location for real Texas barbeque in a casual & friendly setting. I recommend the "all you can eat family style meal" for groups (but your whole group has to order it). It includes potato salad, cole slaw, pinto beans, assorted condiments & your choice of three meats. I also like the combo plates, especially with brisket. My wife enjoys the sides so much, she sometimes orders a three sides plate. Try the serrano cheese spinach, the mac & cheese & fried okra. Stubbs has a gospel brunch on Sundays with live music, a substantial southern buffet & a Bloody Mary bar. They also have a full schedule of evening concerts. Stubbs is in walking distance of 6th Street music venues & clubs.

Lesser known, but great BBQ.
Standard meats and sides, but not too crowded, quick service, and live music/concerts many nights.
The ground beef was to die for, and the fried green tomatoes were also killer. Not for vegetarians. :)

Texas barbeque, cold beer and hot live music are all up for grabs down at Stubbs Bar-B-Q in downtown Austin. There's just somethin' so right about chowing down on some melt in your mouth brisket, sipping on a Shiner Bock and seeing Merle Haggard on the stage in the backyard at Stubbs all at the same time. And their Sunday Gospel Brunch will help ya make it through all those 'Bloody Mary Mornings' during SXSW - full gospel and southern food included, of course.

There is a lot of history at Stubb's Barbecue ... located close by on Red River. It is also a great place to catch live music ... with both indoor and outdoor stages.

We love Stubbs because not only is the BBQ pretty great, but the restaurant is nice and comfortable, AND they bring in live music groups. Check their calendar to see who's going to be there, and try to combine two of Austin's great experiences at once--Que and Live Music! (We hope it hasn't gone to their heads that Obama chose Stubb's during his last trip to Austin.)

Last year I had the unfortunate luck to have bad seafood on the first day of SXSW. Ok, you can now question my sanity and dinner choices by having seafood in Austin. After being sick for three days I was able to have my first solid food at Stubb's. SALVATION ... this food made me feel human again. I thought the dishes were honest and filling and I'm sure to be back.

I am giving Stubbs five stars as a concert venue. I've seen a handful of concerts here and it's such a perfect outdoor concert venue. If you get the chance to see a musical act perform here, you should go.

I wouldn't say it's the best barbecue but I think it's a solid choice if you're hungry before or after the concert.

Okay so this place can be a little touristy, but it doesnt matter because this place combines some of Austin's best offerings- live music, outdoors and BBQ. I would highly recommend making it to Sunday Gospel Brunch where you can be entertained while eating some good ole' bbq. It gets really busy so I would recommend getting tickets in advance.
