The results are in! Many of Canada’s favourite airlines were honoured at this year’s Skytrax World Airline Awards, with Air Canada and WestJet getting some of the top accolades.
What are the Skytrax World Airline Awards?
The World Airline Awards are coveted and competitive accolades that recognize quality airlines across the globe. They started in 1999 as an impartial way for travellers around the globe to vote on airline passenger satisfaction. Also known as the “Oscars of the aviation industry”, there are no survey entrance fees, no payment to attend the event and no costs for airlines use of the award results. As a result, receiving any of these awards is a global honour.
Air Canada as ‘Best Airline in North America’
This year’s awards were handed out on Tuesday, June 18 at the 53rd International Paris Air Show. Based on passenger satisfaction surveys of more than 21 million global travellers, these are the Canadian airlines that the world and Skyscanner are celebrating.
Air Canada: Best in business travel
As Canada’s largest domestic and international airline, Air Canada was a frontrunner at this year’s Skytrax Airline Awards, taking away five awards in total. For the third year in a row, Air Canada was named Best Airline in North America. This is also the 8th time in the past ten years that the airline has been presented with this recognition.
Other awards include: World’s Best Business Class Lounge Dining, Best Airline Staff in Canada, Best Business Class in North America, and Best Airline Cabin Cleanliness in North America. Air Canada is also a founding member of The Star Alliance, which picked up Best Airline Alliance by Skytrax.
WestJet: Canada’s low-cost airline
Known as one of Canada’s most trusted and most affordable airline carriers, WestJet was also recognized at this year’s Skytrax Awards. They were named Best Low-Cost Airline in Canada and came in 6th for North American airlines overall.
Air Transat: Best leisure airline at Skytrax Awards
Canada’s getaway airline Air Transat received the World’s Best Leisure Airline Award for the second year in a row. As Canada’s number one holiday airline, spanning routes to the Americas, Europe and sun destinations, Air Transat also rated 7th for North American airlines.
Porter Airlines: Canada’s top regional airline by Skytrax
As a favourite local airline, it’s no surprise that Porter Airlines was named Best Regional Airline in Canada. Additionally, Porter ranked 10th for North American airlines at this year’s Skytrax Airline Awards.
