Almost 150 flights occur daily from Vancouver to Osaka. Air Canada is the non-stop option as well as one of the most affordable solutions. United, ANA, JAL, and China Eastern offer one-stop flight solutions. Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is the airport of choice for Osaka travel, and passengers on United can expect a layover in San Francisco. ANA stops in Tokyo. JAL also has a single layover option in Tokyo for just shy of two hours. If you’re flying China Eastern, expect a 3.5 to 9-hour layover in Shanghai.
Departing from Vancouver International Airport (YVR)
Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is the second largest airport behind Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and one of eight Canadian airports that have United States border preclearance on the premises. YVR contains two terminals (Domestic and International) and four concourses.

Two impressive aquarium exhibits are found on levels 3 and 4 of the International Terminal. YVR even has spas, a dry cleaner, and offers professional preventative and emergency dental services on level 1 of the Domestic Terminal. Don’t get caught up in amenities, however. Most airlines suggest passengers arrive at least 30 minutes early for their departure while some airlines encourage a two or three-hour early arrival. Arriving at Osaka
Passengers flying in from Vancouver International Airport to Osaka can expect to land at Itami Airport (ITM). Located just 17.2 km from Osaka’s city centre, ITM is the primary airport for Japan’s Kansai region. As such, Itami Airport serves the needs of over 14.5 million annual passengers via three terminals: North Terminal, South Terminal, and Central Terminal.
The amenities at ITM make layover time fly by. Get a shave or haircut at the barber or enjoy a full massage in Central Terminal CF. Head to South Terminal CF for massage chairs and shoe shining. Sky Book Store and Sky Convenience Store on Central Terminal 1F have mobile charging stations. And an array of food and beverage options can be found with throughout Itami Airport with varying schedules. There are no 24-hour options, however.
Osaka Travel Tips
Canadian travelers need to bring their passport to visit Osaka and a visa if they expect to stay 90 days or longer. Osaka can get quite hot with average temperatures hovering around 18°C.
