Almost 150 flights occur daily from Vancouver to Osaka. Air Canada is the non-stop option as well as one of the most affordable solutions. United, ANA, JAL, and China Eastern offer one-stop flight solutions. Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is the airport of choice for Osaka travel, and passengers on United can expect a layover in San Francisco. ANA stops in Tokyo. JAL also has a single layover option in Tokyo for just shy of two hours. If you’re flying China Eastern, expect a 3.5 to 9-hour layover in Shanghai.

Departing from Vancouver International Airport (YVR)

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is the second largest airport behind Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and one of eight Canadian airports that have United States border preclearance on the premises. YVR contains two terminals (Domestic and International) and four concourses.

  • * Concourse A is a hub for WestJet Encore.
    * Concourse B handles domestic flights for WestJet, Sunwing Airlines, Air Transat, Air North, and Central Mountain Air.
    * Concourse C is a hub for Air Canada and Air Canada Express.
    * Concourse D is used specifically by international and U.S-bound flights.

Free WIFI is available for all. Lounges are found airside on level 3 of domestic and international departures. Two impressive aquarium exhibits are found on levels 3 and 4 of the International Terminal. YVR even has spas, a dry cleaner, and offers professional preventative and emergency dental services on level 1 of the Domestic Terminal. Don’t get caught up in amenities, however. Most airlines suggest passengers arrive at least 30 minutes early for their departure while some airlines encourage a two or three-hour early arrival. Check with your chosen airline at the time of booking your trip.

Osaka Travel Tips

Canadian travelers need to bring their passport to visit Osaka and a visa if they expect to stay 90 days or longer. Osaka can get quite hot with average temperatures hovering around 18°C. At over 4 times the population density of Vancouver, visitors can get uncomfortable quickly. By all means, enjoy the museums, castles, attractions and, of course, Dōtonbori.
