Terminal Information for Toronto Island Airport

Also known as Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, this field sits on the Toronto Islands, southwest of downtown. For flights to Toronto Island from Thunder Bay, all of the domestic arrivals land at the arrivals gate on the lower level of the terminal. As of October 2016, the passenger terminal is undergoing an upgrade, so travellers should take that into account when arranging transportation.

In 2015, the Toronto Island Airport opened a pedestrian tunnel to connect the city's mainland to the island. The trip from the curb on the mainland to the airport's check-in via the tunnel takes less than six minutes. Another way to reach the mainland is a 90-second ferry ride. Starting at 5:22 a.m., the ferry departs every 15 minutes from the airport until 12:07 a.m. The ride is free for travellers and CA$11 for vehicles on the return trip.

The airport also offers free shuttle service to and from downtown Toronto. Travellers meet at the airport's mainland ferry terminal building, across the street from Union Station. The 15-minute trip ends outside the Royal York Hotel on York Street. The shuttle departs every 15 minutes and features free Wi-Fi for passengers. They can board anytime from 5 a.m. until 12:07 a.m. Sunday through Friday and 5 a.m. until 8:45 p.m. on Saturdays. Car rentals are available near the ferry terminal, and Skyscanner provides travellers with several car rental options. Travellers can also grab a taxi found at the foot of Eireann Quay.

What You Need to Know

Travellers should arrive 90 minutes before their flight departs. They also must bring with them a valid government-issued photo ID or two non-photo ID pieces, one of which must include name, gender, and date of birth.
