Known to Turks as Green Marmaris (Yeşil Marmaris) because of its pine- and olive-clad mountains, the resort city of Marmaris is set on a broad mountainous bay 45 minutes away from Akyaka. Head out from Akyaka towards Gökova and at the bottom of the hill at the traffic light make a right turn. Continue on the Marmaris -Muğla Yollu directly into the heart of Marmaris. Marmaris is among Turkey's most popular seaside resorts for foreign tourists coming on packaged holidays. There is no shortage of activities on offer her whether you are a lone traveller, a group of friends, a couple or a family with children: Marmaris is a place for all people of all ages. Activities and sights range from a choice of marinas, parks, and beach through boat tours, jeep safaris, diving and horse safaris. From breakfast through to the late hours of the night and early morning of tomorrow restaurants are open and Marmaris' nightlife rivals anything on the Turkish coast. Marmaris is also the hub for an ever-expanding resort area which includes the separate town of Içmeler across the bay, and smaller vacation getaway villages on the Bozburun Peninsula and Reşadiye Peninsula (Datça and Knidos) which jut into the Mediterranean to the west and southwest.

Big, brash and very commercial. Overrun by European package holiday makers, and very little cultural or historical interest in the surrounding area. Much better options available.

Marmaris is this longitudinal seaside road, loaded with hotels, restaurants and pubs, where tourists strut or cycle. It has an incredibly sunny weather in the summer with seas as calm as oil. Nice shopping is to be mentioned. so if you're looking for just a relaxing week far from culture and city hussle, Marmaris could be your destination.

A fine example of what the Turkish riviera has to offer. Marmaris has a long and beautiful marina promenade, lined with countless restaurants, each one more alluring than the next; it would take months to try them all, but just an evening stroll here is magic. The back streets harbour an extremely animated nightlife, where music and tequila are pervasive. Well known to attract tourists, the old bazaar is Ok, but unfortunately only a pale reflection of the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, but the side streets and a walk up to the castle are very worthwhile. Mosques, an amphitheatre, beaches and hotels, sailing and diving facilities, Marmaris is altogether a nice holiday destination, but July and August should be avoided if you're sensitive to the heat; temperatures regularly soar above 40 C (104 F).
